Do I have to replace the Audio Jack Circuit Board (and usb ports & card reader) or is there another fix since it is not the audio jack but failed or disconnected speaker.

Do not replace the audio jack. You should check the speaker connection and if it is tight you could try replacing the speakers. You can get instructions for dismantling the laptop from the N4110 documents page. Download the "Service Manual" in the language of your choice.

Hi Turnabout,

Welcome to the Community,

Since the Windows was reinstalled, I would suggest you to install the Dell QuickSet application to get the volume control back.

Use the link below to download Dell QuickSet:

www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

About the headphone it could be an issue with the headphone port. However can you try a different headphone and confirm if it does the same or if it works fine?

Hope this helps,

Thank You,

Roshan

Thanks for the QuickSet link. Seems that that fixed not only the volume control but the problem that I had forgotten to mention before, which was the photo viewer crashing every time I used it. Thanks!

As for the headphones, though, it is doing it with any headphones. It never did it at all before I sent the computer in. It's not all the time, but it is starting to happen more frequently.

It's not a continuous or even consistent thing, though, and it only ever happens at the start. There is no other audio distortion or problematic activity from the headphones. It's as if the computer forgets about the headphones occasionally, when I abruptly play music after letting it sit for some time, and then remembers to reroute the sound after a few seconds. I wouldn't think it was the hardware; the computer is less than a year old, and never had any audio problems before everything was wiped, which is the only thing that was done when it was sent in. Is there any chance that it could be a driver problem? I did not get the chance to install many of the most basic drivers myself, as the place that backed up my hard drive did that when they copied the hard drive back. I am not entirely sure exactly what they did, or what to look for to know if it is related to a driver.

I can still send you the service tag if you would like to check on it, but right now I do not think I would be willing to jump straight to sending the computer in.

Thanks

Hi Turnabout,

If its the same with all the headphones it could be an issue with the headphone port. Check if its a loose fit  that is causing this problem and while the headphone is plugged in try to push it in (jiggle it a bit)  and see if that makes a difference.

If its the port, you may need to send it to the repair center again to get the port repaired.Send me a private message with the system service tag number and i will check  and let you know what best can be done.

Thank You,

Since you are not sure if all the drivers were installed  and more over drivers needs to be installed in the correct order. If the correct order is not followed than some hardware may not function correctly.

Refer to the link below and try updating the drivers and see if that helps:

I upgraded from 7 home to 7 pro 64bit with cd and most of the drivers were installed except for network and sm bus and a couple other but the audio was installed. I do not have audio even though it was installed with the installation cd. I also updated the dell quickset and still nothing. I followed the suggested order when updating the drivers in an attempt to fix the audio issue but it did not fix the issue. any suggestions?

Hello. Plug in headphones and see if you get audio through the headphone jack.

I do not have audio even though it was installed with the installation cd.

Even you had not install the vendor's audio driver you would normally still have audio because Windows has its own native audio driver that gets installed in the absence of the vendor's driver.

What do you see on the Playback tab of the Sound properties (right click the audio icon on the taskbar and click Playback devices)?

In your reply please include the full model name of your laptop.

it was installed with the installation cd.

So the Realtek audio driver should be installed now. If it is then you will see the word "Realtek" underneath most devices in the Sound properties, for example the speakers. Try switching from the Realtek driver to the Windows native audio driver and see if the audio works.

1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box and hit Enter).
2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).
8. Click "Next".
9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and

Hello jimco,

I used Diagnostic Tests to help confirm, if in fact it is a failed Sense Pin and I don't believe it is because I didn't hear the beep tones which from the instructions above, means that the speakers have become disconnected or have failed.

Do I have to replace the Audio Jack Circuit Board (and usb ports & card reader) or is there another fix since it is not the audio jack but failed or disconnected speaker.

Thanks for all your help.
