I have the same problem. The only (temporary) solution I found so far, which at least seems to be a bit easiert than your workaround, is to

whenever the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging" (for me it's usually somewhere around 71 to 74%):

1. take the battery out while the computer is still running in Windows 7 (but of course with the AC plugged in!)

2. wait for a while. I'd say about a minute at least. (If this tip should not be working, you didn't wait long enough, so increase the waiting time!)

3. then plug the battery back in into the still running computer (yeah, not too easy with the AC cable and other cables, I know).

4. the battery should now charge to its full capacity

But I have to do this now at least once a week, which is quite annoying. Especially when others use the computer and I get back on it and see that it got stuck at 74% again.

Has anybody encountered a PERMANENT FIX to this problem?

Even i have the same issue..

i got the dell folks to look at it.. they changed the motherboard; the socket that the AC adaptor plugs into on the laptop.. still no solution..

whats frustrating is with each passing day; the resident charge is decreasing in  % and now its at 23%.. (the issue started about 15 days back and the charge hold was about 51% that time ).

Hi SB_TEL,

Sorry for the situation. Could you please check the status of AC adapter and battery in bios?

1. Start the computer by pressing the power button
2. Press the F2 key 2-3 times
3. You will now be on the BIOS screen
4. Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type
5. Check if the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.

Adding to this please run PC diagnostics on your battery. Also send me your system service tag through private message. To send a private message, click on my user name and select send a Private Message.

Well I have 3 Vostro 3750 all less than 3 years old and as soon as the warranty ran out this problem showed up the warranty expired on the 5 month of this year on this one and two months later this problem started. I called dell support and after everything I tried they said it was a bad motherboard for a price of $375 plus shipping for just the part. I find it hard to believe that all 3 of my 3750 have the same problem.

After checking out on Google "plugged in not charging" and finding out that thousands are having the same problem.

I am wanting to start a class action law suite any one interested let m know.
