What makes you think the driver seems to have failed?

The driver is included in Windows.

I have, since yesterday, exactly the same problem. And I don't find any drivers to reïnstall; Updat BIOS etc didn't work.

If its not an upper filter/lower filter problem then the drive is probably bad.

I followed the link above (Microsoft support) and followed the steps for the same problem with Vista (even I got Win 7). Ic deleting de upper and lower filters in the registry. And the problem is fixed (CD/dvd rom drive is back).

i have the same problem,  help me too.

this is supposed the driver:

http://downloads.dell.com/rmsd/CT30N_A101.zip   , but is no working

since i have this error, alot of people have the same.

I don't know what is the problem you have exactly, it can be a lot, but mine was resolverd following the link posted by SpeedStep replied on 23 Apr 2012 8:42 AM 

If you follow that link you'll come on the page of Microsoft suppor. Follow the steps (even when there is mentioned it s for Windows Vista - I run Windows 7 and it worked). In my case I deleted the upper and lower filters in the registry and the problem was fixed (CD/dvd rom drive is back)
