My apologies I checked my correspondence with Dell and what fixed it was that my original battery was from China and had a gray tint around the connector the replacement was made in Korea and it was shiny black.

So you want the Korea battery. The adapter had no affect.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community,

Have you tried removing and reseating the battery? Does the system turn on without the AC adapter plugged in?

Check in BIOS (tap F2 on start up),go to Advanced and post back what it says for Battery Health.

Thank You

Yes I have reseated the battery and the system does power on without being plugged in.

I'm more concerned that when I plug it in the charging light flashes between amber and white. The manual indicates this means it could be the wrong power adapter.

Check in BIOS (tap F2 on start up) if the AC adapter is getting detected normally. It will show AC adapter Type 65 watt or 90 watt.Confirm what it shows on your system.Than in BIOS go to Advanced tab, confirm what it says under Battery Health.

So it looks like both adapter and battery is working normally.Try updating the BIOS on your system.

Use this link below to download and update BIOS :

www.dell.com/.../vostro-3460

Note:While updating the BIOS AC adapter should be plugged in and Battery should have minimum 50% charge.

Let me know if this helps.

Well obviously something is not working properly.

And I have A04 Bios already that is the current version on Dell's website.

Can you confirm if the battery charges normally when the AC adapter is plugged in? Within Windows on the task bar to the right hand bottom, does it show plugged in charging when the AC adapter is plugged in?

If it charges normally, once the battery is 100% charged, disconnect the AC adapter and use the system on battery only and check if battery discharges normally (check if it drains out faster than normal).

Hi  ray4jc,

I think the battery needs to be replaced.

Click on my user name, click start conversation and private message me your system Service tag number, battery serial number (which is on a sticker on the battery itself, like CN-3F5132-XXXXX-XXX-1234). Also include your full name, shipping address, phone number.

I will check your system details and get back to you.

I'm working with an agent as this system was sent to me as part of a system exchange but for some reason I can not get them to respond. they are acting like they do not know what the problem is. Hopefully I will hear from them soon. Thanks. I'll post back if they can't work something out.

HI

Have You solved the problem with battery?? I have observed similar behavior of the system at my vostro 3460. Unfortunately Polish Dell Support are not so helpful and they told that they have to take computer for several days (weeks) for testing..... and that is unacceptable for me.They suggested that it is the motherboard problem not battery proble,

I've observed that this error occurs when I have cold battery.

Waiting for reply Michal

The original battery I had was manufactured I believe in Korea they sent a replacement that was made in China and it solved the problem. They also sent a replacement AC adapter just in case.

Good luck.

Thanks for reply. Mine is manufacture in China. And Polish support wants to take the whole laptop for examination because they claim that it may be the motherboard problem.....

Do you know what help battery or charger??
