Hi!

I have a similar issue with a Studio XPS 1645. It can't even load the full bar at dell's initial screen.

In my case win7 shutdown suddenly with a blue screen. Saying it had found an error and was shutting down to prevent damage.  If it's first time seeing this blue screen try to reboot. If problems persist try safe mode reboot pressing F8 at start. Try stopping shadow...can't remember more. And ofcourse an error code code wich I haven't write down.

I power on and it can't finish to load this first screen. Progress bar stop at 3/4. Press ESC and the BIOS welcome shows up. Press F2 to enter setup but it can go any further. Entering SETUP ... and there it stays. It says though:

CPU = 1 Processors Detected, Cores per Processor = 4

Intel Core i7 CPU Q 720  @ 1.60GHz

4088M System RAM Passed

256 KB L2 Cache per Processor Core

6144K L3 Cache Detected

System BIOS shadowed

Video BIOS shadowed

Could this System and Video BIOS shadow be the problem? If so. Is there anything that I can do to stop shadowing? I do have problems with the screen not working on boot quite often. It stays dark as if not powering. I must close the screen and power up with it not wide open, then boots. But today is the first time It's stucks on this dell's first screen.

JSteele, try pressing ESC, and see what it says, maybe there's some more info there for you.

Any help would be apreciated.

Unplug USB devices.

Try to update BIOS.

Could be caused by broken RAM (both cases). Temporary remove/replace modules.

Hello,

Same issue here, However, it occurred after a system crash (no blue screen just stucked, nothing worked). I ran all diagnostics everything was fine only it couldn't reboot at the end of them because it would recognize a disk or device in one of the ports. After that it would do nothing (light light on but all would be black and no fan activity could be heard) for the 60% of restarts and for the 40% of them it would stuck at the 80% of bios loading screen. Hitting Esc, to see what really happened I could see that everything was loading fine until after the "Mouse Initialized" message.

Mind that I can't update the bios or run any diagnostics, because all that can happen after the full bios initialisation while I'm stuck at the 80%

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I hadn't checked the hard drive when I posted. Visited a friend's shop and bought a new driver. Very easy to do, just unscrew the back plate and you'll have easy access to your HD.

We tried another laptop hard drive with a win installation which worked. So changing the disk worked for me.

Thanks, good luck.

Hello,

I'm trying to boot without a hard drive, but still, instead of getting the no operating system found error, it still gets stuck on the 80% Post screen. Have you tried to boot up with no hard disk before you tried the new one?

Thanks.

Hi

The post behavior of the computer might say “no hard drive” or “no OS found” or it might also get stuck on 80% post screen, this is normal during post when turning on the computer without a hard drive.

If the BIOS reports "OS not found" during the boot process while a brand new hard drive is installed in the computer, it means the operating system is yet to be installed.

Also check the boot order in the BIOS, make sure the C: is the first boot device before starting the OS installation.

The boot order is set to the usb disk, then dvd drive, and then hard drive. However, it doesn't boot from any of them, neither lets me to get to the Bios setup screen (I guess that starts after the POST initiation). Mind that I've tried booting with nothing than CPU and RAM, and I've changed places and tried both RAM slots.

Thanks and regards.

Hello,

Already tried all the possible combinations with the RAM slots, but the result was always the same. I've even tried to start the system without any RAM, Just in case, but the bleeping lights that indicate no RAM was present were the only sign of a live system.

Regards,

George.

Hi George.Fergadis,

I understand that you have tried the above steps, I appreciate your effort of performing the troubleshooting steps, and there is possibility of the motherboard / processor failure based on the results. If there is a possibility try swapping the motherboard/processor at a local tech store and check the functionality of the computer before you purchase it.
In case the system has active warranty, please private message the system service tag, contact number and registered owner’s name.
