Please disregard my previous post stating F3515 as the M10 part number.  Dell Spare Parts still isn't showing this number as valid.

Kudos to mnguyen281 for posting Dell part# H3251 in a different thread.  Dell confirms this part is the 128MB M10, price is $145 without S&H.  I ordered mine this morning with an expected ship date of Dec31 (not holding my breath).

Edit:  http://support.dell.com/dellcare/orderstatus/orderstatus.aspx shows the following info for this order:

Order Number:
MOD,CRD,GRPHC,ATI,128,M10,8600
Order Information
Online Order
Order Date: 12/22/2003
Customer Number:

Merry XMAS Upgraders!

I just spoke to Dell Spare Parts.  The part # H3251 did show up as a 128MB M10 but the Dell Rep explain it is a MOD which means it will not shipped.   He put me on hold and check with his fellow workers and came back in said that he is positive that a order place with MOD in the description will not shipped.  I further asked him if I should go ahead and try to order it and he said no it would be a waste of time.

This is hilarious! Why do I get an idiot on the phone every time I call Dell? This time I was told that it was "out of stock" by spare parts, I asked if I could order it and just have it ship when available and he said no. Then after I pressed him a while he said that his manager could approve it, then again I waited 5-10 minutes on hold to be told he couldn't. Then he said that the folks in accessories could order it for me. Then acessories said that spare parts would have it.

So what's the deal? It seems like these folks pull answers out of thier arses! Everyone gets a different story. I'm sure I won't order a Dell again until they fix their whole support & parts ordering situation. I was on the phone for 45 mintues this morning, I repeated my name, address, phone number, blood type umpteen times once for each bum-wipe I spoke to. Does Dell even begin to understand how frustrated I am right about now? Anyone? Beuller? Beuller? Beuller?

Retards,

Eric

That’s a new one. I have no idea what MOD could stand for. Your post did make me look at an old Dell order receipt I had been mailed after I bought a NEC 4X burner via DSP a while back. It gives the item description as: Assembly, Digital Video Drive and Read Write, NEC, MOD, NFI. It would probably take someone who works at Dell to decrypt what the last two acronyms actually are. By the way, I did receive that NEC burner on the expected ship date. Only time will tell if the M10 arrives as well.

MOD = module(?) I think.

Least that's what I got out of it.

Placed my order this morning, hopefully the install will be as smooth as I anticipate it to be.

How much does the ATI Mobility 9600 cost and is it currently in stock. Does anyone know if the ATI Mobility 9600 uses the same heatsink as the 4200go and 5635 (both are bad, however the 5635 is slightly better- - bearly)

Both of your first two questions have already been answered in this thread.  Someone would have to open up their new I8600 to comment on the GPU's heatsink.

Hmm, i have a nvidia 5650 and this card works perfect in all my games (kotor, splintercell, ...)

It also scores good in 3Dmark (10170 in 2001se and 2390 in 2003 b340) using the old v45 drivers. I believe upgrading this card for performance is a waste of money at the time being and not really worth the risk (of loosing guarantee and all...)

I would however upgrade if the ati 9600 is cooler than the nvidia. Mine gets up to 95 °C hot in games and this causes the fans to make a lot of a noise. I however doubt the ati is cooler since it seems to have overheating issues...

Perhaps 5650 owners should wait for the next generation card of nvidia or ati?

Anyone who has some decent test of the 9600vs 5650 because the tests ona anandtech do not seem to match reality?

As for the heatsinks. Dell uses standard parts and the space in the 8600 is very specific so I strongly suspect that the heatsinks are exactly the same. This was also the case for the heatsinks in my 8100 for the geforce 2go and radeon 7500.

I tried to order for my 8500 and I was turned down or transferred multiple times...

why is it they don't want us to buy things from them?

Probably because they want us to buy new notebooks...
