I alerted my Customer Service contacts @Dell about your post. Hopefully, one of them will reach out to you. Keep in mind that I'm not a Dell employee and have no control over what Dell will/won't do.
As for some of your comments.
The phone number is correct, even if it has more digits than you think it should. Once you've dialed the first 10, after the 1, the telephone network will complete the call and simply ignore any additional numbers entered. Having the entire Alienware name spelled out is merely a convenience so people can remember it easily.
The 21-day return cut-off is part of Dell's standard warranty policy, and by placing the order, you agreed to it, even if you don't like it. Many of us have loudly recommended they do somethng different, such as use the actual delivery date they get from the shipping company. Regardless, it's not Dell's fault you didn't have the proper monitor cable. You could have gone to a local store to buy the cable the same day. You didn't have to order it from Dell, and probably at an inflated price.
You didn't say what version of Windows you have, but there are easy fixes for the "file has no program associated" error, such as this one for Win 7. That doesn't excuse Dell from sending out a system with a registry problem, and it may be a good idea to do a clean reinstall of Windows to rule out other OS errors that may be lurking.
Hope this helps while you wait for Dell to respond.

Oh wow i just had the same thing happen to my Alien Ware Aurora R4 and i am still currently waiting on my replacement computer i run a small video editing and gaming firm (and was planning on buying more systems) and this is the first time i've dealt with dell. Has any one else had any successful experiences with dell in the private sector? All i have been seeing is negative comments if so please post, and if any one knows of an alternative to dell products in the private sector please post as well.
I have had great service from Alienware since buying my Aurora R4 7 weeks ago. The computer was DOA when I got it, but a tech came out the next day and repaired it. Turns out it was mis-configured at the factory, which to me was very strange for a high end computer, Where is the quality control?. Since then I have had two calls from Dell customer service asking me if everything was working OK. No other computer company I have delt with has ever done that. The biggest complaint I have with Dell is the fact that all their tech support are script readers in India. I read sometime back that was going to change and if you called from the USA you would get a tech in the USA who spoke English as their native tongue. It's very hard to get a problem solved when you only understand every third word the person is saying. Now if you want to buy a new computer and call from the USA, you will get a sales person in the USA. I don't know that works. Other than that I have had excellent service from Dell/Alienware and will continue to buy from them.
I appreciate your input but you have no idea what I've been through. If this was a new automobile can you imagine the mechanic telling you how to fix the vehicle over the phone? Why should servicing my brand new, in warranty computer be any different. I'm sick and tired of spending hours on the phone with a totally dysfunctional technical support. When you call it takes at least an hour before any work on the computer is done. All they do is read from some script and constantly put me on hold. Nothing they do is intuitive and there are better solutions on the internet.
By the way I tried your fix but when I click on merge I get the same "file doesn't have a program associated with it". I downloaded the fix to a flash drive from another computer then put the file on the desktop of the problem computer. Do you have a workaround for this. Nothing works on the broken computer including the browser, command prompt and task manager.
It sounds like the Windows installation may be corrupted. You might try backing up personal files on external media and then restoring the factory image from the hidden partition.
If this is Win 7, reboot and press F8 before Windows starts to load. Look for the Advanced options and follow the prompts to restore the factory image. Keep in mind that restoring the factory image will delete all Microsoft updates and any other software you may have installed and all personal files too.
Once the image is restored, check things out first before installing/updating anything. If things are working properly, go directly to the MS update site and download all the latest updates and hotfixes.
I hope Customer Care sees this thread quickly and steps up to resolve the problem to your satisfaction.
