@chiefwigms / Graham Jupp,

Glad that the 'BIOS update' now allows the system to wake up using an 'input device', with the 'lid closed'; thank you for the patience and support; appreciate it.

Would also like to thank you for sharing the reference on 'CNET' with the negative review in regards to this issue. One of my fellow colleague represents Dell on 'CNET'; will share this information with him.

@fpiraino / fjupp: Please try flashing BIOS and share the results.

Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

Same problem but with XPS 13 ultrabook

I hope this thread is still looked at as I'm having this exact same problem with a XPS 13 which is less than a month old. I've searched but can't find any reference to this problem with my ultrabook so ask here for help or referral to the appropriate forum thread.

I've updated the BIOS using the update L322XA07.exe tool.  When I go into the BIOS there is no option to enable USB wake support.  I've selected (and unselected and then again selected) all the USB wake the computer options I can find in the Windows 8 device manager settings and yet it still does not respond to the mouse or keyboard connected via the Logitech unifying USB.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

@ gwmaclean, this is somewhat different to the DELL 17R SE issue as the 17R had the option in BIOS but it originally didnt work. Your XPS 13 issue is that the option doesnt exist in BIOS (unless you overlooked it?) so whether this constitutes a bug or just a missing feature is the question. Hopefully Saurabh is reading this and can help you out, but perhaps start a new thread about it if you dont get any response within a couple of days.

Hi gwmaclean,

Apologies for the delay in response; seems that i overlooked the post accidentally.
@Graham Jupp: Thank you for trying to help again; appreciate it.

There are two ultrabook notebooks that are marketed as XPS 13 (L321x and L322x). The BIOS version that you've mentioned in the post (L322XA07) suggests that the system model that you're using is 'L322x'.

As correctly stated by Graham, unlike the variant 'L321x', the BIOS of 'L322x' does not support 'USB wake feature'. Unfortunately, you may not be able to use this feature with your notebook.

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

I'm running version L322x of an XPS 13 laptop and can now wake from USB even with lid closed.

BIOS A08 (latest) allowed me to do this. Previous versions would not wake when lid was closed.

Strange thing was that sometimes "USB Wake Support" was not always available in the BIOS after a flash. I think I had to roll back to a BIOS that had the option, enable it, then flash to BIOS A08.

In any case, it's working for me now.

@Jimbo Mahoney - I've been on L322x BIOS A8 and prompted by the latest post from @zedar97, I tried the latest BIOS (A10) and 'USB Wake Support' is still not  present, so I've tried 'rolling back' to two other BIOS versions A3 & A6 - they don't provide 'USB Wake Support'.

Could you please tell me what BIOS version you rolled back to, and where exactly is the option 'USB Wake Support'?  Thanks in advance.

I have the same exact problem, with a PackardBell laptop and HDMI out. I also think it has to do with laptop BIOS or hardware, since I have windows ACPI lid driver patched and registry set to 'always open' and it won't wake when closed. Manufacturers should take care of this, as many users need it. My solution is keep the lid slightly opened at all times.

Hello Saurabh,

I too have a new Inspiron 3537 with this same issue. Just as Chris above. lid closed no wake from USB, lid open no problem. I have tried all the solutions in the previous post and wanted to confirm Chris' findings.

Would love to have a fix for this.

Thanks,

Travis

I'm having the same problem with my Inspiron 15R (5547). It will not wake with USB keyboard/mouse input if the lid is closed. I've tried updating the BIOS to the latest version  and enabling Wake with USB there. I've also tried installing all the latest drivers from Dell. No matter what I do, it won't resume from sleep (i.e. wake up) with USB keyboard/mouse input if the lid is closed. It does resume correctly with USB keyboard/mouse input if the lid is open, so everything is configured correctly to make it capable of waking.

The only workaround I've found is to configure the power options to never put it to sleep when on AC power, but that seems wasteful and will also shorten the life of the machine.

This is a huge pain since this machine spends most of its time closed on a shelf on a monitor stand and plugged in to an HDMI monitor. (This makes it difficult to open the lid.)

(thanks to another disgruntled dell user - I copied his post exactly.

My words - Very disappointed, Dell! You have known of this problem for at least the past two years over several laptop models and choose to ignore it. Please fix or refund my money.

@ Dell:

The Dell Latitude E6230 notebook is also affected by this issue.

Waking the notebook from S3 (sleep) does not work via external USB mice or USB keyboards if the lid is closed.

When the lid is open, it does work.

Since you have already fixed this issue for another notebook model via a BIOS update (see previous posts), could you please also release a BIOS update for the Dell Latitude E6230 to fix the issue?

As you can see from the last several posts, not only is the Dell Latitude E6230 affected by this issue, but various other Dell notebook models as well.

So, could you please release new BIOS updates to fix this issue?

It is really inconvenient to use the notebook with a docking station as a desktop replacement with this issue.

Could you please do something about it?
