Hi

welcome to the community

To begin, with I would recommend you to check the screen in BIOS. Turn on the system; press at the initial Dell logo screen to enter System Setup. In case you see blurry screen in BIOS then there can be problem with the LCD screen.

After that I would also suggest you to run Dell diagnostics as well. Turn on the system, press at the initial Dell logo screen, and select Diagnostics from the boot menu.

During the Pre-Boot System Assessment, the Video Test will present you a screen with colors bars and you will get a message, “Were Color Bars Displayed (Y/N)" press the key to perform the LCD Built in Self-Test (BIST)

I would also recommend you to disconnect the VGA cable from the back of the monitor and check whetther (Red, blue. Green) blocks appear on the screen or not.

Please revert with results

Thanks & Regards

Hi

Thank you very much for providing the screen shots, I would like to inform you that there is no issues with the lcd screen, however, the error message which you are getting indicates Issues with the hard drive. So I would suggest you to replace the hard drive which will fix the issue.

Please reply if you have any further questions

Thanks & Regards

Thank you once again

But one of the computer technicians told me before that its bad sector. So he changed my hard drive, but sadly the error was never fixed.

Hi

Thanks for reply,

I would suggest you to run LCD BIST on the system, you may get an error in case there will an issue with the LCD, To run the LCD BIST (Built in Self-test) Press and hold the D key on the keyboard while pressing the power button, then release both simultaneously  .

This will initiate a grey screen, then Red, then Blue, then Green then White, to allow you to inspect the entire LCD for color purity on each screen and to better identify defect such as cracks in the LCD or stuck pixels that may not be apparent in a normal viewing mode.

Moreover I would like to inform you that 0123 error indicate memory read/write failure, so I would suggest you to follow these steps that might help you.

• Turn off the system and any attached peripherals.

• Disconnect the system and any attached peripherals from AC power.

• Use a wrist grounding strap and mat when working inside any computer system to avoid electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage

• Remove the battery and memory door.

• After that insert memory stick1 with module 1 and turn it on, if system turns on that means both memory stick and slot are good. Follow the same procedure with the other stick as well.

• I would also suggest you connect memory stick 1 with slot 2 as well.

Please revert with the result.

Thanks & Regards

Thanks again for your fast reply,

For the LCD Bist, there was no problem

For the memory solution, well wow it even made it worse. now the screen thing happens every 5-10mins

(it took me 30mins to be able to run a browser and post this)

Hi

Thanks for the reply,

It might be an issue with the memory stick or the memory module. I would recommend you to remove both the memory module and connect only 1 memory stick in module 1 at a time and restart your system. After that connect the same memory stick with module 2 and restart your system again.  Do the same with memory 2 as well.

I would also recommend you to boot the computer in Safe Mode with Networking and uninstall video drivers, follow below mentioned steps:

  • Restart the computer.
  • Tap during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Press until Safe Mode with Networking is highlighted, and then press .
  • After that open device manager
  • Click on the plus sign next to the display Adaptor
  • Do a right click and click on uninstall
  • Restart your computer after that and check again.

Please follow the below mentioned link to install drivers:

Please revert with the result

Thanks & Regards

Thanks again

Concerning the memory slot thing, although i have no idea what was the point of it, but it still never fixed anything. (yes memory stick 1 & 2 worked in both memory slot 1 & 2)

Concerning the install/uninstall using safe mode, after I've uninstalled display adapter, i restarted my computer. Automatically windows 7 installed the display adapters once again. I immediately opened Safe mode and 2 different display adapters were there, this time the screen thing that happens to me took 10mins instead of 5mins. BUT nothing was fixed :/

(the 2 new installed display adapters)

I haven't read the whole thread - anyway:

> you obviously have 3 problems at the same time : bad screen, bad memory, bad harddrive - at least I would treat it that way(it's possible the a faulty memory ot harddrive could be the cause for the screen problem)

> you need to get rid of  faulty memory sticks first ! As long as you keep getting error messages about memory problems during tests the whole system is unpredictable.

> if the memory problems are fixed but the screen problem and lock ups are still present create a bootable Linux USB stick and boot the system from USB

> if the last step still shows no improvement try reseating the cable that connects the Lcd screen to the mainboard.

Have you ever experienced problems with the screen while moving the lid back and forth?

> Since your system also locks up when the screen problem appears it wouldn't make much sense to connect an external VGA monitor if the LCDscreen was the possible problem for the lock up but you could try disconnecting the LCD display cable and just use an external VGA monitor on its own(press FN & F1 or just F1 at power up to switch from internal to external screen - test it !).I can't tell you for sure if the system would boot if the BIOS doesn't detect the internal screen - but I think it should work)

> You need to be careful when disconnecting the display cable - don't break the connector -checkout the service manual

> I almost forgot to mention (possible but less likely in your case)overheating problems : check the cooling system too)

> Do it it on your own responsibility

===========================

If you want to test the system with a bootable USB stick I recommend using LinuxMint 10 (looks like WinXP ) -easy peasy....)

Hi

Extreme apologies for the late reply.

I would suggest you to connect an external monitor with this laptop and transfer the display by pressing FN+F8 at the same time. Please let me know, if you see the lines on external monitor. Please refer to the image below image for VGA connector.

Please revert with the results.

Hello, sorry for very late reply,

Heres what i did as a try and it worked, I removed one memory stick (so now my laptop is 1gp instead of 2gp) and it works perfectly! other than its slow tho, Then i tried putting the memory stick in DIM A leaving DIM B empty, immediately the screen thing happened again.

So I came to a conclusion that DIM A has a problem, but what is it? and how can this be fixed?

If none of the memory sticks work in DIM A but work otherwise fine in DIM B then you either have a problem with a controller on the mainboard or the slot itself is broken. In both cases there is almost nothing you can do about it.Use a magnifying glass and and carefully check the DIM A slot of dirty or bent pins.(If dirty or bent be very careful when trying to fix the problem !!)

=============================

If you can't fix the DIM A problem try to find out what the maximum memory size for one slot is.If is 2 GByte you could replace the 1GByte stick with a 2 GByte one - maybe even 4GByte(not sure about 4GByte)

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Please reinsert the memory stick in a different slot and then turn your system on.

If it’s working fine that means problem is with the memory slot and if issue still persists that means memory stick is faulty.

Please reply if you have any further questions
