You can go ahead and try resetting the video output settings, please follow the steps below.
Turn the PS3 system off by holding the Power button on the front of the console till you see the power light turn red. Then hold the power button on the front of the console for at least five seconds until you hear a second beep to turn the system on again. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution. You can also refer to the link below.
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this did not help. I have tried other devices(DVD player) but the screen just turns of and never shows anything else.
Please let us know when you unplug the PS3 from the laptop does the display come on? After connecting the PS3 you can press F8 or Fn + F8 keys on the keyboard for the screen to display on the laptop. In case after doing the above step and still the screen does not come on. You can go ahead and update the video driver, please use the link below to download the video driver.
In this link please punch in the system service tag or express service code and choose the appropriate operating system and download the video drivers which are required for your laptop
