I am having the exact problem you described on my Inspiron which is less than 2 years old.  I had internet connectivity via my wireless networks until I installed Adobe Reader Update 10.1.4.  After the restart, I connected with the wireless router, but not to the internet.  There are other computers in the wireless network that have no problem connecting to the internet, so I know my router and DSL modem are functioning properly.  All the diagnostics on the wireless NIC say it is functioning properly.

Geoffers1979,

Do you have McAfee installed? If yes, there was an update Saturday night that cause connection problems. Use system restore and go back before Saturday night.

Tried to get into McAfee and do a system restore but received an error message ""A volume shadow copy error was detected" unable to restore before Saturdays update.   Where do I go from here?

Hello Rick,

I'm having the same problem and yes I do have McAfee installed since it's still during the free trial period with the purchase of the laptop.  I actually just got this laptop 2 weeks and ago and don't have system restore setup yet.  I wasn't planning on keeping McAfee since I have other preferred antivirus programs.  Will uninstalling the program fix this problem since i can't use system restore?

OMG I am having the exact same issue, I only bought my laptop 2 weeks ago (around 5th August 2012 in Dubai, UAE) and I was able to connect to wifi and use internet until few only 4 or 5 days back it stopped working.  It is connected with the wireless router, but not to the internet.  There are other computers in the wireless network that have no problem connecting to the internet, so I know my router and DSL modem are functioning properly.  When I run diagnostic (troubleshoot) it says Problem Found: "The DNS server isn't responding" I dont know what it means?

In "Network and Sharing Center" at the left bottom there are few options, I clicked on "Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools, a pop up windows opens and it has a "Diagnostics" section, there are few options, I clicked on Diagnostic and there is another pop window opens "Manual Diagnostic Tool" and it says "run tests" which i clicked and here are the results:

Hardware Test                Pass    Wireless Hardware is enabled

Driver Test                       Pass     Driver is loaded. Net wNs64 Version 15.0.0.75

Radio Test                       Pass     Radio is ON

Scan Test                        Pass      There are 5 networks available to connect

Association Test            Pass       Associated

Authentication Test        Pass       Authenticated

Signal Test                      Pass       Signal Quality: Excellent

Ping Test                         Failed       No Response: default gateway, DHCP server

I have windows 7 and McAfee pre-Installed.  please can you help me?

Kathy and others,

If there are no system restore points, you can remove McAfee, I would use the McAfee Removal Tool

Restart your computer. You should be able to connect.

You can then reinstall McAfee or choose another virus program. I use FREE Avast Home Edition It has a great real-time scanner. You register for a year(FREE) after the year is up, you resgitser(FREE) for another year, it's an endless cycle, unless you decide to try the paid version.

Please make sure to have virus protection.

Happy surfing,

Rick

Hello, I have the same exact problem... I thougth it was the Adobe update, but it looks like it's the Windows automatic update that gets loaded every time I shut the PC off. Every time I restart/shut off my PC, the automatic updates are loaded and then when I start my PC, I have no internet connectivity...

So every time I have to restore the system...

I also have noticed the PC working pretty slow...

So Is this what we will have to do? Keep restoring the system? DOes anyone know if Dell or Windows are working on this issue?

Thank you!

Thanks Rick, now I remember the connection died on Sunday and I did the McAfee updates on Sat night. How do you do a system restore? Sorry, showing my computer illiteracy now...

Geoffers1979,

Start, all programs, accesories, system tools, system restore. Use the nearest restore point before Saturday night.

If system restore does NOT work, then use the McAfee Removal Tool to uninstall McAfee. Restart your computer. Yo should be able t connect. Then reinstall McAfee. Since McAfee is aware of this, they have it posted on their website. http://mcaf.ee/s3b79 They also have it that once you reinstall McAfee, it will still connect.
