Your hard drive is defective probably. This message (BootMBR) means that your operating system was degenerate. Try to do a reinstall of operating system with CD (event you have), but prepare your backup before.
I would agree with Fabio that Error Code 2000-0146 indicates hard drive issue. I would suggest you to reinstall the Operating System of the computer. If reinstalling the Operating System does not work, then the hardrive needs replacement. Instructions for re-installation of Operating System are mentioned on the link below:
Hi Manshu I cannot get past your fourth item. I got an error code of 0216. I saw the colors. But when I turned off the computer and then tried to press F8 nothing happened except the message ( BOOTMGR MISSING). I appreciate the help but I think I may need more or different instructions/
Hello Fabio, Thank You for the diagnosis, and result. I tried rebooting Windows 7 and XP- Pro. I still get the same error codes. So I will have to think for a few days as to whether I will replace the hard drive or just get a new computer in the near future. Thanks for the assistance.

Hi,
It seems to be a software issue, I would suggest you to do the following steps to isolate the issue:
1. Turn off the computer
2. While holding down the FN key switch on the computer till you see the diagnostic running on the screen.
3. Color bars on the screen indicate functional LCD, please press “Y” when it appears.
4. Please make a note of the error code if you get any.
5. In case, no error code restart the computer and tap the F8 key to access Advance Boot Options.
6. Highlight Safe Mode and hit Enter.
7. Perform System Restore, which you may refer the Dell Article 266590 on www.support.dell.com
8. If computer is not booting into Safe Mode, we can restore the computer to factory settings by performing PC restore.
9. Steps to perform PC Restore are mentioned on http://dell.to/eriYdG
NOTE: PC Restore will delete the old data (pictures, music, videos, Applications) from the computer. I would suggest you to backup any important data.
10. You can refer the Dell Article 125843 on www.support.dell.com
Please keep me posted with the result.
Thanks & Regards
