Unfortunately, the Control Panel on the system has to be replaced.
Please provide me the system Service Tag in a private message.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Please reply to my private message.

I have scanned through a number of Dell orums and this problem seems common or normal with users who have upgraded the BIOS to A08 or higher.

Hello:

I am re-posting this because I have the same problem!

I'm having problems with the three shortcut buttons above the keyboard that are supposed (in theory) to open the Windows Mobility Center, the Dell Support website and to turn off the screen. The problem is that only the first one works properly the other two just flashing lights and doing nothing. I'm particularly interested in:

First making the screen thingy work because it's useful when using external monitors.

And secondly, a way to customize the buttons with functions of my own will.

Best,

Bernie T.

Hello,

Is anybody here? I went to a store today and guess what? Inspiron 17r SE which i saw there had the same issue so it must be a common issue!!! Probably all inspiron 17r SE with windows 8 or maybe even with windows 7 have that problem...

What's worse nobody really care to respond to that???

This has been covered before and it is not a hardware fault but a software one, it is usuall linked to getting the correct bios for your machine and then downloading the updated drivers which get the buttons to work again, I have a 17R SE and I have updated to Win 8 and everything is working fine, if you search through the forum you will see previous postings related to this but I repeat it is not a hardware fault.

I tried to look for an answer and was not able to find it, as i can see here other couldn't find it either. That problem is out of box which is a bit strange and it seems i have the latest version of bios. Which driver is responsible for buttons?

I also tried to restore computer to factory default but that didn't help... Another things is that when i started to install drivers for touch pad then it stopped working with windows 8(swipe to show right menu on so on), i guess drivers posted on dell websites under my model are not really for my model...odd. Next I tried to update intel 4000 hd and i got message " you system does not meet minimum requirements" or something like that...I guess you can't have everything...

Does anybody have a solution to that not working windows mobility center button? That is the first button from left side?

I bought the 17r and I have the same issue. I have spoken to dell and they have been telling me that they are working on a solution. They have been telling me this for the past 2 months. My computer is still under warranty, so they maybe getting it back.
