Hi

I would like to inform you that it’s an optional update as of now. This version will fix following

  1. Add Digital Sign Feature
  2.  Signed Firmware update.
  3.  Update new password algorithm. 3.
  4.  Enhance Comp trace security.
  5.  The BIOS release has been validated on the following operating systems: 1. Microsoft Windows Vista 2. Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

In case you are facing any issues with any of the above mentioned features, please go ahead and update BIOS. However, as you have mentioned that your system is working fine, would recommend you to continue to use the system without the update.

Please refer to the below mentioned link and click on Fixes & Enhancements

I am providing one more link that will provide information on BIOS update

Please reply if you have any further questions.

Thanks & Regards

Keep your BIOS A17; nothing to gain with version A18.

I'd planned to - at least until A18 comes out on the list of recommended updates when my laptop gets scanned on the driver updates page at Dell!

It's 2.5GHz & 8GB of RAM - so I don't plan to replace it for a year or so.  But I wanted to have all the updates that were applicable to be running on it.

Other than Downloading Directx Patch June 2010 and the Verde drivers for your video there are no extras or reason to update the bios unless you have an issue.
