Hi rawbite,

I request you update the driver from the Nvidia website. Please find the link below from where you can download the latest video driver:

http://bit.ly/YZsm

I also suggest that you update the latest version of the BIOS on your system from the link below. While updating the BIOS, please connect the Ac Adapter and do not use the system until it restarts after the update.

I hope you find this useful

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

I have also tried the latest nVidia drivers and it is the same.

I didn't tried to update the BIOS, but from the description of the update it don't seems that it address this issue.

Hi rawbite,

I Request you to update the BIOS as it controls the way all the hardware components function and check if it fixes. I would also recommend you to connect the laptop to an external monitor while the system is at sleep and wake the system. If it fickers even on the monitor, then the problem is with the video card or its drivers. If it doesn't then we might have to check the LCD screen. This is to check if it is an issue with the Video card or the LCD screen.

I hope this helps.

Please reply back in case of any queries.

I have a desktop wallpaper with thin horizontal lines (kind of the same texture like the laptop brushed metal lid). On that the flicker is the most visible. It is also quite disturbing on a gray colored parts of the screen. Also, the flicker is more accentuated in the right lower part of the screen.

Gone for a while, now the problem came back after a restart. Around the web people say that this is a problem of the power manager. Namely that it tries to reduce the screen refresh rate to save battery.

Having the latest drivers, latest BIOS and the same old problem. Started thinking that it doesn't worth to pay extra for the nVidia video card ...

Problem is that when I first saw this problem, I've had a method for reproducing it all the time, but now it appears sporadically only so I don't even know how to test a solution.

Hi rawbite,

I request you to go to the BIOS and disable the Ambient light sensor. While restarting the system keep tapping the "F2" key multiple times on the keyboard to get to the BIOS screen. Select light and uncheck "Ambient light sensor".

I hope this helps

Hi,

I have already disabled the light sensor as someone suggested on another forum, but it don't help.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't understand why they've changed the screen and other hardware for you guys because it is clear (for me at least) that what we face is a software issue. Something goes wrong with the drivers.

I remember that it first happened after a driver update. Back then I have downgraded the driver back and the issue was gone until I re-updated the driver. I have updated the driver again because I've had crashes on resuming from sleep with the old video driver.

From the video the flicker is exactly as on my laptop.

I can tell you that with older drivers it is not reproducing. Unfortunately I've lost the old driver so I don't know which version was (stupid me). The changing of the screen maybe helps because it is related to the video driver AND the display driver and with some type of screens the driver works and with some it does not. Also there are others telling that they only reproduce this on Windows 8. So there could be a problem between Microsoft display driver and nVidia video driver.

So yours is flickering even in BIOS? That seems like a hardware problem indeed. Now, I am very curios, I will have the same problem after a while or my problem is different? Yours was flickering after you brought it or the issue appeared after a while? Also the flickering was not fading for you in 10-20 minutes?

Hi rawbite,

It seems to be an issue with the LCD screen. I request you to contact your IT team, if it is a business system for LCD replacement. If it is not a business system I request you to private message me your system service tag number. To private message accept my friend request, click on my user name and click start conversation.

Please let us know in case of any queries.

Thanks and regards

Still not convinced that this is hardware failure in my case. The laptop is a personal one and for now I cannot afford not to have it. Also, for now the flicker fades away and most of the time the display don't flicker so I can live with it a little more.

I would emphasize that this appeared after a driver update for the video driver.

Thanks!
