Hello Chinmay S, I have a M5010 with the same 7 beep and will not boot. I have tried your recommendation with no success. Can I message you the Service Tag number, to see what other options I have?

Hi chimnay

The sequence of beeps is 7 Beeps then a pause continually, there are no LED lights flashing or static, just the power on solid light

Regards

Liz

I have to disagree with your diagnosis for the 7 Beeps. I know it not to be a processor failure since I have changed processors and still get the 7 beeps. This is a code for motherboard failure and I'm a bit concerned since the amount of post around the net claiming this issue and Dell still has not done any recalls or made any attempt to correct this matter except at the customers cost.

Hi Chinmay,

I also have exactly the same problem: An M5010, which is 18 months old (so out of warranty) - was working perfectly until 2 days ago when it wouldn't start and repeatedly gave 7 beeps. I've tried taking the battery off, holding the power button for 15 seconds, and then trying again - without any change.

Could you please let me know what my options are for getting this fixed.

Thanks very much,

Steve

The "black screen of death" is usually very easy to repair on a laptop. First turn your computer off by pressing and holding down the start button. Next unplug the computer and then remove the battery. Press and hold down the start button for about 60 seconds. Release the button and plug in the computer. Press the start button and the display should return. Replace the battery. If this does not work, try it again up to four times. No results usually indicates a bad mother board. Hope this helps.

Hi domgui25,

As laptop is beeping 7 times and not turning on, this indicates that there is a system board/processor failure in the laptop.

Changing the motherboard/processor of your laptop could fix the problem.

I am also providing you the contact number for France Dell technical support.

Hello All,

I'm french in France,

A girl friend of my daughter has the same problem with her Inspiron M5010 black screen and 7 beeps :(

It was repaired once  under warranty, Then he died after the warranty (end 21/07/2011) about 6 month after.

I open it several times about 17 times ! disassemble and reassemble all, first time I cleaned the cooling fan and renew the thermal past of the processor.

16 times the laptop worked fine, maked selftest several times nothing wrong,  it worked when restarting the computer or when in waking mode but died when i hibernating mode or shutting down the laptop :(

Last time unfortunately it doesn't work anymore :( black screen 7 beeps again,

I'm in the M5030 thread (en.community.dell.com/.../19436289.aspx) after googleing, I saw other M5010 consumers having this trouble, I read all the 24 pages thread

I' asked Royan as friend on the 24th of october and I'm waiting now I hope he could do something too for frenchs consumers ?

In UK and USA the repairing is free of charge, (design flaw).

I tried the oven heat reflow with no success, still 7 beeps and black screen, I also tried the DVD method :(  as I saw in the M5030 thread.

Thanks all for your suggestions

Amazing how we all have the same issue at about the same time of ownership.  Anyone get this issue fixed?  I even looked for parts on Dells site and they offer nothing that we need.

It looks like Dell (in the UK at least) is fixing this problem free of charge for laptops under 2 years old. I phoned them (0844 444 3274) on Friday and was told it will be collected for repair on Monday. But apparently it will take 3-4 weeks, due to lack of available parts, which is a bit of a pain. They also said that the hard drive will be (or may be - can't remember) wiped, with a fresh Windows installation. I'm wondering whether that means it will be a new machine???

Hi Steve,

My apologies for delayed response. 7 beeps on M 5010 indicate 'Processor failure'. I am glad that the issue is taken care of by Dell technical support. If the hard drive of your computer is wiped off, it will be sent only with the fresh installation of Operating system and drivers on it.

Please reply for further clarifications.

I'm sorry Chinmay but I totally disagree. I have the same issue and I have tried several processors all comparable and a few are the exact specs as the one removed and still have the issue. It is a motherboard issue not processor and please inform me of what Dell is doing to correct it.

Yes, my insipron m5010 is not even 2 yrs old,yet tonight i had it it on , and left it on went into sleep mode i thought ?

I tried to rouse it and got the infamous 7 beeps of the death knell, and was told my dell even though a extened warrenty was bought the processor was probably bad and given a # to call about purchasing a new one. I dont know about you but this is no Mere coincidence, i'm not sure of the cost ?I will have to buy a new computer now, however NEVER a Dell again to be quit sure !!!!
