Your system is capable of running this version of Flash player. However, if prompted with 'Flash player' update message, do check for the minimum system requirements again before installing the same.

It did not address my question which was " I am wondering if it would make sense to stop upgrading the player before it becomes too great a burden on my system." The updates are supposed to fix security issues among other things, but XP itself will no longer be getting security updates in the near future.
Apologies for the confusion. If you have Windows XP 'Service Pack 3' installed on the laptop, it will still be supported. Microsoft will continue to provide security updates and other critical updates for Windows XP Service Pack 3 until April, 2014. These updates do not have any direct bearing with the updates for 'Adobe Flash Player'. You still need to validate your system requirements before installing the player's updates.

Validate what? The player's requirements already exceed my system's specs. I wrote in my initial post
"Flash Player requires 128 MB of graphics memory. My laptop allows 64MB max for graphics."
Was hoping that some forum regulars might have some insights about this. For now I think I will stop upgrading Flash Player and use "No Script" to block it from working except on trusted sites.
