Hi Senthil, thank you for your answer, I called the technical support service today and the problem was on the Bios setting, we changed the SATA mode from Smart Response Technology to AHCI after loading the default/optimal setting. The root of the problem was that the Windows 8 OS is installed on the SSD drive and the system wasn't checking this drive when booting. The laptop is working fine now.
I had the same problem with my new XPS14 and I called the italian Dell support but they were't able to give me an explanation and even to solve the problem.
They suggested to me of buying Window8 and transfering it into an usb key in order to install again the operative system.
But I didn't trust in their suggestions...furtanately!!! And then I found this post and I followed the technical support service suggestion qnd it worked!!!
You can refer to the above post and follow the steps to resolve this issue. In case after trying the above steps and it’s not working, please reply with the exact error message.
I had the same problem with my new XPS L421x and tried the steps as outlined by you. Everything worked except the secure boot option, it does not allow me enable the secure boot after the entire process in the BIOS. What do u I do from here.
The PC works perfectly but I'm worried about the secure boot being disabled.
Please let us know when you are trying to enable the secure boot; do you get any error message? In case there is an error message, please send us the error message preferably with screenshot.
I bought a brand new dell xps 14 z Lap top on 17 October 12 . Suddenly one day I encountered a problem, when I switched on the laptop it was just showing the dell logo forever. It was not booting up. I tried switching it off and trying again but the same problem persisted. I have tried all the things specified in the forum, including changing the boot settings, but still nothing happened. Previous day before the lap top stopped working, I got a message on the screen, saying" windows auto updates are required and ur computer will restart in two days.". How can this happen, as my laptop hardware ceased to function, is this a manufacturing defect, or is my laptop a defective piece?. Or is a software malfunction? Kindly help me.. With this problem
Kindly run the Dell Diagnostics and revert if any there are any errors.
Kindly find the steps below to perform the H/W diagnostics.
Turn the computer off >restart the computer
At the Dell logo screen, start tapping the F12 key a few times until you see the ‘One Time Boot Menu’ appear.
At the one time boot menu, press the down arrow key to highlight ‘Diagnostic’, and then press Enter to begin the PSA diagnostics. If the test fails, please make a note of any error codes listed. You can also refer to the link below.
I can't get the Change Secure Boot back to Enabled. It is greyed out. I'm now booting into Windows, but I'm affriad that not having this setting correct will cause issues down the road.

After power on, press F2 before the logo appears.
This will take you to the BIOS.
Use the arrow keys to get to the BOOT tab
Change SATA mode from Smart Response Technology to AHCI
Press F10 to save and exit and voila!
Good luck
