Hi jasimp,

I recommend updating Audio drivers on the computer.

I have provided a link below to install Audio drivers on the computer:

1) Visit the following website: http://dell.to/QjjZDA
2) Enter the Service tag of the computer in the box provided and click “Submit”.
3) In the next page, click drop down arrow to select the Operating System which is installed in the computer.
4) Under category AUDIO, select the drivers accordingly, click “Download File” and save the file on desktop.
5) Double click the file and follow the onscreen instructions.
If the issue still persists, run the diagnostics on the computer.

Run diagnostics on the computer (Restart the computer by holding Fn and power button).Let me know the status of diagnostics.

Awaiting your response!

Hello. If re-installing or updating the audio driver does not fix the problem, see the 1st section of the Headphone Jack FAQ for a possible explanation of the issue. However because you do not have the Dell Diagnostics audio tests available you might have to diagnose the problem by a process of elimination. For example, if you re-install Windows but the problem remains, then you will know it is the hardware. Then you could replace the speakers but if the problem remains you can deduce that it is the headphone jack. I have looked at the service manual and it shows that the audio jack board is replaceable but I don't know how hard it is to find. I did find one for sale on ebay.
