Do your fans come on? You can boot from your Drivers & Utilities CD to run a test on your fans, or download FanGUI, to control your fans and monitor your system temperatures: http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html
The outlook windows issue sounds strange. Do you have a firewall enabled? What is in these outlook windows?
The fan does come on ever so often. Actually, when it does come on, it freezes all action on the screen for around 10 sec. I will do the test you suggest.
It is the regular Outlook window, part of Office XP, like what would open if you double click on the Outlook icon on your desktop.
That sounds like it might be a virus, or spyware. Try running a virus scan, and running ad-aware and spybot, and see if you turn anything up. Do you run a firewall when you connect to the internet?
I have Norton's Anit-virus running and checking often. I have Black Ice on whenever I am on the internet. This seems to happen only when my laptop is not in the port. I haven't any trouble with the pop-up windows when in the port. I does get hot, though, in the port and it acts up in other ways. Isn't there something I have read somewhere about the touchyness of the laptop. Something you can adjust about the palm rest pads on it? I also would like to know how you boot from the utilities disk. On my Utilities disk, I only see NIC diagnostics and Modem diagnostics. Then I have a Drivers File and an HTML file. Even when I tell the F2 set-up area to boot from the Optical Drive, it just boots as usual. So, I need more direction in this area. Thank You
