Hi  suruchi,

Welcome to the community,

Symptoms shows it could be a failing HDD.But  without diagnostics showing any error it is hard to tell as to which component is as fault.Performing a clean reinstall (formatting C drive) should take care of any possible software issue.Since the issue persists even after reinstalling Windows I don't think its a software related problem.Updating BIOS seems to  have helped.

However I would suggest you to run Custom test on HDD and see if you get any error.Refer to this link below for steps to run this test :

support.dell.com/.../document

Post back error code/message if any.

Thank You

Hi

I put a NEW Hard-disk  and installed windows vista 64.

then added following drivers and softwares and in-between restarted the system:( listed in order if remember correctly)

1) nvidia chipset, ricoh card reader

2)windows vista 64 service pack 2

3) nvidia graphics driver

4) ethernet controller

5) firefox 14

6) wireless 1515 driver

7) internet explorer 9

but after these i shutdown the system and then its not booting now,

inbetween the bluescreen comes with errors 124, 9C etc.

it sometimes ask to choose safe, previous good config, normal startup options, but whatever i choose it starts microsoft boot screen but freeze there. (however hard disk activity LED is not off for infinity as was the case previously)

waited for half an hour at that point may be it boot up but nothing is pleasant.

i even tried to boot from cd to do re-installation but it freeze at loading files screen.

Kindly suggest how i should proceed...?

I believe you've already tried reseating the memory module. So I doubt its the memory  and also you have replaced the HDD.It could be an issue with the motherboard as the system is freezing even while booting from the CD.

Did you check if the system was overheating? Was the fan working normally(any loud sound from the fan)?

well studio xps used to overheat since beginning, i usually use a base or usb fan. sometimes it had switched off so since then i avoid using laptop without base. presently, i am using a table fan, so dont think overheating can cause all these . regarding fan, i felt air blow at heat sink vent. had sprayed compressed air to remove dust over fan and heat sink without dismantling them while opened back flap for replacing the hdd.

Does i need to replace motherboard?

I am trying to boot since morning and finally it boot in safe mode. and restarted and it boot BUT no login screen came, just black screen. powered off n tried again, chosen 'Normal' option but the same situation.

during safe mode noted few error codes:

1)  many with event id 7001

2)  id : 7026 (the following boot-start or system start driver failed to load: AFD, DfcC, netbt, nsiproxy, Psched, RasAcd, rdbss, Smb, Spldr, tdx, Wanarpv 6)

3)  41(Kernel Power): The last sleep transition was unexpected. this error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed or lost power during the sleep transition)

other i found important are:

1)  Information (1074): power off by winlogon.exe (reason code: 0x500ff)

2)  Information (1074): power off by explorer.exe (reason code: 0x0)

3)  warning (19): A corrected hardware error occurred. error type: Bus/Interconnect Error.

Please help me to diagnose and find the solution.

You can try removing and reseating the HDD,optical drive, memory module. If the issue persists and if the system freezes while booting from CD,than you will have to replace the motherboard.

Hi  suruchi,

If possible format the HDD again and reinstall Windows.Once the Windows is reinstalled, while reinstalling drivers first install the Notebook(Dell) System Software from this link below :

www.dell.com/.../studio-xps-13

Followed by Chipset and then rest of the drivers.

Note:If the system is not booting from the CD,you may need to connect that HDD to a different system and get the Windows installed and drivers reinstalled.

Hi Chandra,

Welcome to the Community,

Did you run the hardware diagnostics(tap F12 on start up,select Diagnostics)? Are you using a copy of Windows OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) DVD or is it the recovery DVDs you had created?

Also please post your system model number.

Thank You
