Welcome to the Community. I suggest you start by running a Diagnostics on your hard drive. Press the F12 Key at the Dell Logo on startup, select Diagnostics and run an extended diagnostics on your hard drive. Post back with any error codes.
I am neither restore nor able to reinstall XP. When I press F8 for restore I am getting NTLDR is missing and when I tried to reinstall XP I am getting "Plug and play detected an error" so it's a kind of deadlock.
This sometimes happens on my Inspiron 6400 if it is powered up via the Media Direct button.
Please power down your computer by holding gown the power button. Once it is powered down wait 10 second and power up using the Media Direct button. Windows XP should load, power down again. Try again powering up with the Media Direct button, again power down.
Finally try powering up with the power button.
It works in my system all the time but I don't know why. :)

Hi,
I did an extended diagnostics but it did not return any error code. It says no error found.

Hi,
I recommend you try a PC restore, or Reinstall Windows XP. All data will be lost if you do this step.
