Dell Inspiron 17 SE 3D comes with discrete NVidia video card for 3D feature. To use the WIDI on any system you will need WIDI compatible Intel video card, Intel wireless card and Intel processor, or a system which has NVidia Optimus technology.
Dell Inspiron 17 SE will have WIDI if it’s ordered without 3D. For 3D systems, NVidia Optimus feature is disabled. Hence the Intel Video card is never active.
I will recommend you to re install Windows 7 on your system since there are multiple issues with the system.
Steps to re install Windows 7 Operating system:
Insert the Microsoft Install DVD into the DVD drive of the computer.
Restart (or power on) the computer.
Press the key as soon as the keyboard lights up.
The 'Boot Menu' appears.
Click 'CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive', and then press the key.
A window appears that says 'Press any Key to Boot from a CD or DVD'.
Press a key on the keyboard.
Click 'Language, Time, Currency and Keyboard Method', and then click 'Next'.
On the Windows Installation page, click 'Install Now'.
Review the terms and click 'I accept the license terms' to proceed.
On the 'Which type of installation do you want?' window, click 'Custom (advanced)'.
On the 'Where do you want to install Windows' window, click 'Drive options (advanced)'.
Highlight all the partitions and delete them.
Click 'OK'.
On the 'Where do you want to install Windows' window, click 'New'.
When prompted to select the size of the file, select the size, and then click 'Apply'.
Click to select the partition, and then click 'Format'.
On the 'If you format this partition, all data stored on it will be permanently deleted' window, click 'OK'.
On the 'Where do you want to install Windows' window, click 'Next'.
The 'Installing Windows' window appears.
The Setup window appears.
Select a user name, password, and picture for your user account.
On the 'Choose a computer name and choose a desktop background window', click 'Next'.
On the 'Help Protect Windows automatically' window, click 'Use Recommended Settings'.
Click to select your time zone, and then click 'Next'.
The 'Thank you' window appears.
Click 'Start'.
Let me know once Windows 7 is re installed and I will give you proper sequence of the drivers to be installed on your system.
I am still researching on the Intel video card not getting detected issue. I will keep you posted. Please reply in case you have any further questions.

So if what the above Dell employee said is true, I'm not gonna get back my Intel Drivers just by a Windows reinstall. You need to find another way so i can change the settings made by Dell, temporarily disable the 3D feature and re-enable the Intel Graphics with Optimus and WiDi.
2. As for the Dell Quickset Hotkey not working, it is a BIOS problem. It stopped working after I updated the BIOS, and I have tried reinstalling all the chipset, keyboard and Dell quickset drivers/applications, but it didn't work.
Also, the Windows DVD, or even the factory restore (which is not gonna work on my system) will only reinstall the Windows and programs. So after I reinstall everything, the BIOS problem will stay the same.
3. My other issues (such as Halo not working etc) were solved by using the compatibility modes. So they are not issues anymore.
So as it seems, the only critical issue I'm having is my Dell Quickset/Windows Mobility Center hotkey (the settings button besides the Waves Maxx Audio button) is not working. It does not open the Quickset anymore. Although the other two buttons are working fine.
Please tell me a way to reinstall the original BIOS that came with my laptop when I purchased it. Is it availabe on Dell website?
I have researched on this issue and here are the findings:
If the system is purchased system with 3D, it will not have Intel video card.
If the system is purchased without 3D, you will get switchable video cards.
As far as 'Quickset' is concerned, a BIOS update would not affect it. You can try uninstalling and re installing audio drivers and quickset application which may fix this issue:
Click on 'Start' and click on 'Control Panel'.
Click on 'Programs and features' and a list of all the applications will be listed.
Look for IDT audio driver.
Right click on it and click on 'uninstall'.
Once the audio driver is uninstalled, uninstall 'Quickset'.
I performed all the steps you said. Except that the Dell Quickset file was not available on the link you provided, so I installed it from the DVD that came with my Dell laptop.
But still the problem is same. The quickset doesn't open by pressing the settings button.
Give me link of my older BIOS, i wanna see if starts working by reverting BIOS to original.
I appreciate all your efforts. A BIOS downgrade may not be possible. We can try that after re installing 'Quickset'. I understand that you have uninstalled and re installed it, however, it may not be an updated version of the driver. Please uninstall 'Quickset', restart the system and re install it using the above steps. Below is the link to re install it:
Right click on it and click on 'Save' and save it on your desktop. Uninstall the previous version of 'Quickset' installed from 'Program and features' and restart the system. Once the system is restarted, right click on the latest version of 'Quickset' installed on the desktop and click on 'Run as administrator'. Follow the on screen instructions to install it and restart the system again.
Hope this helps. Please reply in case you have any further questions.
I've downloaded the above file about 5 times. Every time it was downloaded without any interruption or error, but when i open it, WinZip says the file is corrupt/broken. I've tried downloading using different browsers, even tried using WinRar and 7-Zip to extract the files but no luck.
Please extract its contents and email them to me, or give me another link for direct .exe file.
But have you got any update on rigging the laptop's internal subsystems to enable the Intel Graphics?
I know there's no such thing as nVision 3D with Optimus, but there could be way to disable (if even permanently) the 3D stuff and switch to Intel. If so, please let me know.
I am glad that the issue is resolved. This system is designed in such a way that if it is purchased with 3D, it will not have Intel video card; hence, Intel video card cannot be enabled even if 3D is disabled.
This is great information, but I would like to take it a step further and ask if it is possible to load optimus and enable the use of the HD4000 card on my Alienware M17X R4. I do not intend to use the HD4000 to run any graphics, necessarily, but I would very much like to use it in a video editing program that takes advantage of multiple GPUs in order to render video more quickly. Thanks for any insight.

Unfortunately it is like that. I got a response from Dell. If you have the 3D model its not going to work.

Hi Mr Vikram
You're not getting my point. What issues I'm having are not gonna get solved with a Windows reinstall.
1. The Intel HD drivers issue will stay the same even if I reinstall the windows, because as Mr laridae stated in his above comment:

Hello Vikram
I've completed the following steps: Uninstalled Dell IDT and Quickset, Downloaded new IDT drivers and installed.
But I cannot download the QuickSet from dell website. It says "Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded."
Please give me a different link or tell your guys at dell to repair the broken link, or file.

My understanding is that the HD4000 is part of the i7 chip and hence the hardware should still be there. Is this incorrect?
