While an SSD will work, it won't perform optimally - the system uses a SATA bridge (no BIOS update could change that -- it's a hardware limitation of many -- most -- first-generation SATA systems).
hi both, thanks for your replies. i dont mind if it doesnt work at optimum speed as long as it works. do either of you (or anyone else) know if the d630 can enable ahci as i have seen posts saying you can and others saying no, and i would like to pick up a cheaper older system that will benefit from an ssd.
excellent, il keep my eye out for a cheap one of those then :) is it easily changed in the bios do you know? my 6400 doesnt have this option so am unsure.
thanks again and you seem to have a friendly community here which is nice.

Hi Andy,
I have checked the specifications of your system and it does not support Solid State Drives. It only supports SATA hard drives.
Feel free to reply for any questions.

The D630 does have an AHCI setting in the BIOS setup.

If you do, be absolutely sure you get the version with an Intel video chip - NOT the failure-prone nVidia version.
Yes, you can change the mode in BIOS setup on these (I've worked with many of them).
