Welcome to the Community. Try removing the battery and the ac adapter, press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds, connect the ac adapter to the system and try turning on.

I contacted customer support and they confirmed that it was more than likely not a problem with the charger. So I assume it is something wrong with the hardware, they gave me a case number and said they would dispatch a technician soon and ring up before sending the technician. Do technicians dispatch on weekends or only during the week?
Yes, technicians do dispatch on weekends, however the technican may come over only on the next business day. Dell use to have a warranty called Nights and Weekends, that has been discontinued, and is not available anymore.
I am having the identical problem with my XPS 13, new out of the box today. It was running earlier no problem, got part way thru the windows 8 tutorial. Was on charge sitting there for about 4 hours, I closed the case and now it's as dead as a dodo. Won't start and no sign of life. No removable battery, so the advice below isn't appropriate. Wonder if this is a bad batch
If I pull the back off can I reach the battery easily? I am in Europe and don't seem to have a warranty that extends here so it is probably worth trying something like this before calling in a technician.
If you pull the back panel off (10 screws) and unplug the battery. Wait about 5 minutes then plug it back in. You also want to change your power settings in windows. Do not allow to sleep mode. I had this issue twice and have not seen it again since changing power settings.
Thanks Jarrod. Dell cust support thinks it is a problem with the motherboard and a technician is supposed to switch it out. I will follow your advice on the power settings. Cheers.
Just had a visit from the repair guy. He said it isn't the motherboard, but something more serious. It has to be shipped back to Dell for repairs. I'm not feeling very confident about this new computer I just paid $1200 for - not to mention the fact that ive been without it for 2 weeks now.
It was the motherboard after all. The tech came back and replaced it in about 15 minutes. It's been running fine ever since. Repair was covered by warranty.
Exactly the same as me, new motherboard, in warranty as it was only a couple of weeks old- which seemed to have fixed the problem.
Now (a few months later) I am funding the power totally cuts out, without warning, but just occasionally, suspect theres a build issue with electrical connections
Thanks! I was so frustrated for about an half hour. Googled my problem, from the desktop and your answer popped up. Luckily had the right screwdriver, unscrewed the back, unplugged the battery for a minute. Flipped over the computer and it turned on just fine. Screwed the back on. Entered my Thank you and I fixed the XPS 13 in 10 minutes.
I didn't have to go to No tell, Dell h ell, the black hole of nincompoops! It's your BIOS, it's your motherboard, it's out of warranty...
