I think you may be waiting even longer unfortunately, I ordered my m17x on the 2nd of december (a week ago) and my order won't be delivered until the 7th of Jan next year, and even that is just "an estimate", some people have had 2 or 3 push backs of their eta. Apparently they don't have the parts available to make the laptops and have to wait for them to come in from elsewhere... In the same boat as you too, as I'm leaving the country permanently at the end of Jan, so if mine isn't here by then will have to refund or chargeback :(
I actually ordered my 14x, because I wanted a new laptop, but because I got hired and they too had ordered me a laptop and a workstation pc. I was brought in to organize and restructure and implement new technology...and the two orders were also made with DELL. All three are still " in production". I understand these are well made computers, however there are ways to restructure and make it so costumers don't have to wait. Today everyone wants everything instantly, the product Dell is selling is what accommodates that, which I find ironic. Build a stock of parts, tag them, link them to what's available to build on the website, build costumer loyalty rather then wait to buy and stock the parts to meet demand. By the time I get my computers, they will be closer to being obsolete..do I get compensation? NO. Its just annoying. Taylorism, there is an optimal way to get things done in these dell factories, someone needs to go back to college..
I had the same problem. Ordered on the 26th of November. Original date of 12/10 to get it. No big deal. On 12/8 they tell me I need to cancel and re-order because of incompatible parts that I ordered. Have no idea how that happened since I ordered a base model computer off their website. Got a new date of 12/19 but I'm almost certain it won't arrive on that date in which case I will cancel because it will be too late for Christmas for me.
