I believe you want to use it as a secondary hard drive. You do not need to prepare or configure the modular hard drive prior to using it. Connect it and format it. Ensure that you have the latest drivers and BIOS from this link: http://dell.to/WhjKip. Select the operating system and install the drivers. Hereafter, the drive will be visible as a separate partition.
Before flashing the BIOS please check the following: * No external devices(except the keyboard, mouse and monitor) should be connected. * All other programs should be closed and documents saved. * The AC adapter should be connected during this process. The battery should be 10% or more than 10% charged. Also, ensure that the Module Bay is enabled in BIOS. To access BIOS, restart PC. Press F2 key at Dell logo. Expand the list for 'System Configuration' and go to 'Miscellaneous Devices' and ensure that 'Enable Module Bay' is selected. Click 'Apply' and 'Exit'.
