Hi PB,

To isolate the issue, please help me understand if the stuttering noise comes from the right side of the computer or from the left side.

I recommend running diagnostics on the computer(Hold down the Fn + Power button simultaneously). Also, I request you to private message system service tag number, Owners name and contact number. To private message, accept my friend request; click on my user name and click start conversation.

Awaiting your response!

I just received my laptop today, and I am having the exact same issues as lelle dell, the skull candy speaker from the bottom right of the laptop keeps making static/crackling sounds when playing audio/running programs/having headphones plugged in.

i bought the laptop in holland, but i stay on the moment in Latvia, i realy need this laptop.

The noise is also coming from the back speaker when i put the headset in the laptop, but the noise is not always there only when i use the laptop more intensively, like with youtube or skype, or several open internet pages it is there.

Hi lelle dell,

I regret for the delayed response.

Could you please use another know good adapter and check if the noise stops?

This is an issue with the speakers and the adapter port as well.

Kindly private message me the service tag so that I can go ahead and help you with the service on the computer.

I could see that the service tag was removed as it was sent out publicly in the forum.
Kindly Private message me the service tag.

Awaiting your response!

Hello, I just received my new 17R 5720 laptopI and I have the same problem, strange noises from  back speaker.

I received my 17R SE 3 days ago and same problem.

As soon as I use any app or web site that plays sound, even with the headphones in (or not) a loud crackling starts from the speakers ( I think it is the one on the right). I have un-installed the audio drivers and re installed them, which did not help. I did a clean install of Windows... did not help.

I also have found that if I unplug the power adaptor the noise stops, but as as soon as I plug it in again the noise starts again. My guess is that as soon as the battery runs a bit low due to intensive use such as video, the charger kicks in and that starts the crackling sound which is like static. Muting the speakers doesn't help, but restarting the computer will stop the sound until I start another video or similar, then the crackling starts again.

Stopping the video does not stop the crackling/static sound.

My guess is that there is a problem with the hardware, probably the power circuits and charging hardware.

I will be phoning Dell on Monday.

That is correct for your model, the 17R SE, but not necessarily for the 17R model that is the subject of this thread. To see more about the 17R SE problem see its section in the Choppy/Skipping Audio FAQ. But you are correct, you have to contact Dell to get it repaired.
