one year ago I bought an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 thinking it had the keyboard with backlight (I also asked to Dell pre-sales before make the order and they confirmed it......) but the received PC doesn't have this feature. I immediately opened a formal complaint with Dell customer care: they admitted Dell responsability and also send to me another keyboard but it is absolutely equivalent to the original one (no backlight!!)...after that the customer care stop to answer to my email and became unreachable...very disappointing and disgraceful for Dell.
I own a Dell Inspiron 15z ultrabook touch.I also have the same issue. Keyboard backlight is not turning on. I tried the steps "Fn+f6". nothing has happened. Can you help me fix the issue?
When was the last time it was working fine? If you have followed all the steps mentioned in this thread please send me your system service tag or express code via private message. To send a private message, click on my user name and select send a Private Message.
Why ask for tags, etc.. Please just post the steps to recover, restart or what have you; or as I suspect, the laptop(s) were not sold with a backit keyboard in the first place and were simply advertised that way. The price for mine, new, was very good, so I can almost overlook this "slight prevarication". However, I did want this specific feature and would consider installing a backlit keyboard depending on availability and price.
Usually the system comes with non-backlit and backlit keyboard option. For me to confirm that I need the system service tag. If you think your system came with a back lit keyboard please check if quickset application is installed if it’s not installed please go to this link and punch in the service tag. Under drivers and downloads in the applications tab you would be having quickset. Download and install. Reply with your findings.
It seems that a lot of people are having the very same issue. It would be really helpful if you posted the solution or general area of the solution (i.e. get driver etc) rather than add friends and PM.

How do you turn on the keyboard backlight feature (fn then F6) and why is this such a problem?

What is causing the issue?
