Hi Manu67,

The key combinations to control brightness on XPS L702X are as follows

  • Press < Fn >< F4 > to decrease the brightness of the display
  • Press < Fn >< F5 > to increase the brightness of the display

If  you want a graphic popup of the adjustment, you will need to download a software called ‘Dell Quickset’.

Here are the steps.

  • Click on the link http://dell.to/VllfZV
  • Click on ‘Get Driver’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Click on ‘Save’
  • Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
  • Double click on the file; choose ‘Continue’
  • Click 'OK' on Select the folder where you want to unzip the files (Make a note of the folder location)
  • Click ‘Yes’
  • Click ‘Ok’, follow the on screen instructions and install the file
  • Restart the computer

In case you do not get prompts on the screen for instructions, then

  • Browse to the folder where the files were unzipped and locate the setup file
  • Double click on the file; follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation

Please reply if you have questions.

This worked... a bit. Now the control is working (I can change the control value using < Fn >< F4 > and < Fn >< F5 >. However, the brightness itself is not working. (And I restarted my PC).

So now that the software is installed, any idea so that it actually controls the brightness of my screen?

Hi Manu67,

Thank you for your response. Good to know that the controls are working now. Let’s try the following steps to see if you are able to change the brightness:

Check the brightness option:

  • Right click on an empty space on the screen
  • Choose ’Personalize’
  • Click on ‘Display’ on the left side bar
  • Click ‘Adjust brightness’
  • Check if you are able to change the brightness

If the above steps do not work, try to change it from power options:

  • Click 'Start/Pearl' icon
  • Click inside 'Search Programs and Files' text box
  • Type 'Power Options'
  • Click on 'Power Options' (Refer to image below)

  • Click on the selected plan

  •

Note: Laptop will automatically re-configure the power settings as per the chosen plan

  • Click on ‘Change plan settings’
  • Adjust the brightness for both ‘On battery’ and ‘Plugged in’ according to your preference
  • Click on ‘Save changes’

If the above steps do not work, then update BIOS.
Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Battery is 10%> or >10% charged
*Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

  • Click on the link http://dell.to/P7aYgq
  • Click on ‘Get Driver’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Click on ‘Save’
  • Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
  • Right click and choose ‘Run as Administrator’
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program
  • Restart the computer

Please reply if you have any questions.

I made a second test. I changed the value with < Fn >< F4 > and < Fn >< F5 > and rebooted and it was taken into account.

It now seems that I need to reboot so that the value is actually applied to the screen brightness.

This is definitively a software problem.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

First, thanks for the help. We are progressing. I flashed the Bios to A18. I can now change the brightness in the power plans and it's applied after a reboot. But it's not very easy to adjust because I don't see the result immediately !

When I use < Fn >< F4 > and < Fn >< F5 >, the value superimposed on the screen is changing but there is no change in the actual brightness.

I'm 100% sure that before reinstalling Win7, this was working.

Do I miss a driver somewhere?

Thanks again for your help

Hi Manu67,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the information provided. Good to know that you were able to change the brightness, however, you need to restart the computer to apply the settings. Since the computer was formatted, several drivers are required for the system to function properly. Let’s install all the drivers in the following sequence.

First install the System Utilities. It provides critical updates and patches for your operating system..

  • Click on the link http://dell.to/PBWs1m
  • Click on ‘Get Driver’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Click on ‘Save’
  • Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
  • Double click on the file; choose ‘Continue’
  • Click 'OK' on ‘Select the folder’ where you want to unzip the files( Make a note of the folder location)

Now install the ST Microelectronics DE351DL Motion Sensor drivers.
Click on the link http://dell.to/SseQNK and follow the above mentioned steps.

Then install the chipset for the computer. It is recommended that you install all the chipset drivers from the mentioned links.

  1. Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller
    Click on the link http://dell.to/UAhVvS
  2. Management Engine Interface
    Click on the link http://dell.to/Qf9FyU
  3. Huron River (HM67)
    Click on the link http://dell.to/NNsnO3
  4. USB3.0 Host Controller
    Click on the link http://dell.to/OmrltO

Install the updated video drivers.
Click on the link http://dell.to/Phjrxz (if your system has Intel graphics card) or http://dell.to/OQketJ (if your system has NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics card) and follow the above mentioned steps.

Please check which options have a yellow exclamation or question mark in Device Manager (share screenshot if possible)

Here are the steps to access Device Manager:

  • Click on Start
  • Right-click on Computer
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on ‘Device Manager’ on the left sidebar

Please reply with the results.
