Hi,

I appreciate that you noticed the error. Please do not flash the BIOS to A11. Instead use this driver from this link: http://dell.to/T0xZ8E. The correct BIOS version is A07.
Before flashing the BIOS please check the following:
* No external devices(except the keyboard, mouse and monitor) should be connected.
* All other programs should be closed and documents saved.
* The AC adapter should be connected during this process. The battery should be 10% or more than 10% charged.

I will forward the error feedback to the site moderators.

Hope this helps.
Please revert for any further queries.

Hi Manpreet,

Thanks for your reply but did you know the link that you posted actually forms part of the download page of Vostro 3560?

Additionally, when I clicked to download the A07 BIOS version, I got an error message that reads: Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded.

What happened?

Thank you for the response.

Yes, it appears that the drivers for BIOS have been swapped between Inspiron 15 R SE 7520 and Vostro 3560 on the support site.
However, the BIOS listed under Vostro 3560 is for Inspiron 15 R SE 7520. Since you are unable to download  the file from the link, here is the file:

I have sent the feedback to the site moderators to fix it.

Hope this helps.

Dear Manpreet,

Thanks for your quick response.

No offense but are you really sure that I can flash my Inspiron 7520 with BIOS version A07 provided by you?

I just wish to be 200% sure as I don't wish to "brick" my mobo.

innogen

A04 is the listed BIOS at the moment.  Dell is currently working to publish any new BIOS revisions. I don't suggest updating the BIOS past A04 at the time being.  Please keep an eye on the website for any updates.

I am happy to let you know that I was able to flash my Inspiron 7520 to BIOS version A07 successfully.

Up till this point in time, I haven't encountered any issues with my laptop PC after the BIOS update.

To: DELL-Manpreet C

Thanks so much for providing me the A07 BIOS update.

I was looking for a way to boot linux into UEFI mode. My laptop is the same as innogen's, but has anyone besides him tried to flash this? Does Dell approves this update? Since it was on the wrong page and now pratically vanished I'm not so sure if it was really meant to be released as of yet.

I've managed to download it and it's indeed an Insyde flash utility (as stated in platform.ini file) but my concern is if my mobo is compatible since there are other models listed there and what if innogen was only lucky his update went well.

To the best of my knowledge, Linux supports booting via UEFI mode since 2000.

Whether Dell approves of this update remains to be seen. If you can be a bit more patient and wait till October 26 or later, you will see an avalanche of device drivers, including BIOSes, for Windows 8.

I've managed to download it and it's indeed an Insyde flash utility (as stated in platform.ini file) but my concern is if my mobo is compatible since there are other models listed there and what if innogen was only lucky his update went well.

Just be more adventurous and flash it.

But before you flash your BIOS to A07, read my warning here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19471945/20209700.aspx#20209700

To the best of my knowledge, Linux supports booting via UEFI mode since 2000.

I know this, but I couldn't boot this laptop using UEFI. It came with Windows installed with BIOS-MBR booting and I've partitioned a HDD in GPT but there are no options or menu to make it boot into UEFI. Only the Diagnostics Tool. I've actually put some folders and files (e.g. that /efi/boot scheme) inside Dell Utility partition, but the system doesn't recognize them as bootable.

Just be more adventurous and flash it.

I'm crazy but not that much.

And I've read many of your posts concerning this topic, even some out of here. Until some more people or a Dell representative says it's safe to update, I'm not going to risk bricking my mobo.

My perceived benefits of flashing BIOS to A07:

1. BIOS reports the 16GB of RAM on my mobo correctly (cf. A04 and prior versions)

2. Improved USB 3.0 support. My external USB 3.0 devices transmit data faster with this A07 version compared to A04.

3. UEFI support and Secure Boot support for Windows 8 and later.

If your mobo bricks, it's still covered by Dell's warranty service.

You may wish to know that as of Oct 23, 2012, BIOS A07 has been released on Dell's website (see image below).

But be forewarned: There's no downgrade path to A04 if you have flashed your mobo to A07.

The problem about bricking is not warranty, but the time I'd have to wait till the fix. I bought this for entertainment, but I'm using it for work too.

Tried to download without success.

"Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded."

I'm gonna wait some more. Still got a lot to do.
