Hi alxk,

These systems were not tested with Windows 8 Operating system, hence drivers are not available. However you may try installing Windows 8 Operating system. The system will run on native drivers. Please back up all the data from the system before installing the Windows 8.

Just a short update regarding my Initial question:

we've upgraded XPS 8000 and Studio 1557, both systems now running very well on Windows 8 Pro.

Only with the Inspiron One 2310 (Intel) we struggle with decision whether upgrade or not.

As long as nobody can confirm touchscreen works w/o problems IMHO it makes no sense.

It's a pity that DELL doesn't support/confirms devices with (perfect) requirements for Win 8 UI...

I have installed Windows 8 Pro. on my Inspiron One 2310 last night.  Mainly function work fine (including touch screen) except following issue still need to solve.

Need to solve:

1. Multimedia drivers (may be the AverMedia)

2. Intel(R) HM57 Express Chipset LPC Interface Controller - 3B0B

Hi,

we use the following systems:

- XPS 8000
- Inspiron One 2310 (Intel)
- Studio 1557

Any experiences regarding upgrade to Windows 8 Prof. 64bit and possible driver problems?
Can anybody confirm that touchscreen of the Inspiron One 2310 is usable with Windows 8 Prof.?

Thanks for your help.

Alex

I have yet to see anyone upgrade these specific units to Windows 8 but likely they will all work.

We have a healthy community based effort getting the dirvers for the Studio 1555 and 1558 and now 1458. The 1557 should have much of the same drivers as these models.

Also the XPS 8300 and 8100 work and we have taken most the drivers from the 8500. The 8000 is only slightly older and much will be similar.

As Dell are not providing driver support some more work needs t be done finding drivers. In particular you should:

Check for issues in the device manager and report the hardware IDs

Press the [Windows] and [Pause|Break] or [Windows] and [ e ] (to open computer) and then select properties.

On this screen next select Device manager.

Hopefully it should look something like mine.

If you have an error, yellow ? or ! as in my base system device then Windows 8 hasn't found a system driver correctly. Quickly check to see if you have missed installation of a driver. If you still can't find out what it is. Right click the device with the error and select properties:

Go to details and select Hardware ids.

Also state if you are experiencing any abnormal behavior/limited functionality.

Also run these three auto-update utilities:

Run the Intel Driver Update Utility

Run the ATI AutoDetect Utility if you have an ATI graphics card

Run the nVidea AutoDetect Utility if you have a nVidea Graphics Card

If you have installed certain drivers and they have worked could you let me know so I can document it in my unofficial driver sets.

Hi JCHFR,

I have already mentioned in the post, this system is not tested with Windows 8 Operating system.  Since Windows 8 is already installed, the system should run on native drivers. However you may try calibrating the touch panel. The following explain the steps to calibrate touch panel:

Open the Control Panel windows and click on Tablet PC Settings. Click Calibrate button in Tablet PC Settings window. Now tap the cross hair (+) with your finger each time it appears to calibrate the touch screen. Follow the onscreen instruction and save the calibration data to complete the calibration.
