laptop speakers voice distorted

Hello everyone

I bought Dell XPS 14 two years back and now it is out of warranty. The problem started when right hand side speaker stopped working. Since left hand speaker was working fine I didn't bother. But to my dismay after 2-3 months the left hand speaker sound started distorting even at 50% volume. I don't know what is the cause because I haven't installed any new software. They were working fine in the night and in the morning they were out  of order, without any reason. I have already checked the speakers settings, uninstalled-reinstalled audio driver but nothing worked. Please anybody help me, because I don't want to invest now in buying new speakers. I more thing to which I would like to draw attention is that there was a free screw roaming inside the laptop when I bought it, but since everything was working fine I didn't bothered. But now even that screw can't be heard moving if I shake the laptop. Is that screw is screwing my life?

This is probably a hardware problem in which case you would need a hardware remedy, such as replacing the internal speakers or obtaining external speakers. To determine whether the problem is hardware-related or software, run the Dell Diagnostics audio tests. If the symptoms persist during the tests then it is hardware-related. If the symptoms disappear during the tests then it is software.

Another thing you can do is to listen to audio through headphones. If the audio is okay through the headphones then most likely there is an issue with the speakers.

Hi sndp.324,

You can check a headphone or a external speakers on the system. If they work fine then its an issue with the internal speakers.

You can either buy a external speakers or contact our Expired warranty support to get the internal speakers replaced. Please check the link below to find the contact information:

Hello Rashmi Jha. This is a discussion forum and we do not have the information you are requesting. For that information you should contact Dell's tech support.

United States support contacts

International support contacts

If you want to know the cost in US dollars for parts for an Inspiron 1545 model, see the parts-people ((experts in Dell parts).  Dell itself does not sell the speakers and screens for the Inspiron 1545.

I'm not sure what you asking about warranty. If you are asking about buying an extended warranty, go to this page, enter your service tag in the box that says "Enter Your Service Tag" and click Submit. You will go to your support page. There you will see a link named "Warranty". Click on that to see your current warranty status. There you will find a link to an e-mail form to see if you qualify for an extended warranty.
