Dell will not come up with a backlit keyboard option for this model. Kindly find the pictures below on Multimedia control and Special function keys usage.
Please could you also tell me, how does the function of Fn+F1 key work? When I press these two buttons together, some kind of additional you call applet or application pops up, but not sure, how to make use of it. Can you clarify?
In short, could you please suggest me, how to make use of hotkeys on Dell Inspiron 3521 keyboard. Also, any chances that, Dell is coming in future with backlights feature with its keyboard on my laptop?
Thank you for your detailed specification about the hotkeys, Harish. Very informative!!! :emotion-1:
Can you also describe F1 key more in detail for me please? Any additional link or information provided would be highly appreciated.
Also, about the F3 key as you mentioned above, it allows touchscreen. Now that I have Windows 7, will it still work as a touchpad? Can you provide more information on it for me please?
In case if you have connected an external monitor or a projector, you could use the FN+F1 to toggle the display from your laptop to the external display.
Pressing FN+F3 will turn Off/On the touchpad.
You need to have some source of light to use the system as there is no backlit option.
Also a new thing I discovered since 3 days is, the number keypad on my Dell inspiron 3521 beeps in two different sounds. e.g. I press the Number Lock button to activate number keypad and it beeps with one sound and when repress, it beeps with another sound. Unfortunately, I'm unable to use the number keypad on the right hand side. What does that mean? and how do I use number keypad on the right side????? Waiting for your reply.
Can someone please answer me my above mentioned query about the numeric keypad on the right hand side?
1) Please know that when I want to use NUMBER keypad on the right hand side, and when i press NUMLOCK key, it doesn't function, instead it just beeps it in two different sounds,
2) However, when I press 8 or 2 or 4 or 6, on the same right hand side keypad, it does function as up & down arrow and right and left key.... can someone please clarify that to me?
3) There are chances that I may have accidentally pressed some keys, that may have locked the NUMBER key function.

Dear Harish,
Can you please tell me about the F3 hotkey, as I asked above "Now that I have Windows 7, will it still work as a touchpad?"
So that I can try accordingly.

Hi Nilesh,
FN+F3 is just a switch wich can enable/disable the touchpad.

Hi
I am using dell inspiron 15 3521 laptop and installed windows 8
I have installed the drivers for touchpad and tried to disable the same using the control panel mouse-touchpad option as well as the fn+f3 option.
It disables the touchpad for a while and if I use the touchpad (when it is disabled) with little more stretch, it gets enabled.
Please provide a solution how I can disable it permanently
Regards,
Durai
