Prateek K:

I picked up this forum thread while trying to repair a friend's mom's E1505 Laptop.

It really needs a full system recovery but I can't seem to get into what I assume is a recovery partition. From what I read online I should be able to Control F11 into a recovery partition but it does not work.

Is there anyway to get a clean version of vista for her?  I know the drivers are on the Dell site so that is not a problem.

Thanks

If the system came with Vista factory-installed, the way to access the quick restore is by F8 before Windows loads.  However, if the system came with XP and was upgraded to Vista, the quick restore will no longer function and a manual install is in order.

In the US, you can request the recovery media online - see below.  Outside the US you must call Dell.
