Can you tell me if you ever got any resolution to this issue? I see others reported the same problem as recently as February. I also have a 17r that has been doing this since I got it, usually when it gets moved ever so slightly. Sounds like a lot of folks have tried a lot of different things with no success, was just curious if that was still true?
It is sad that Dell seems to have a flaw in this model of computer and can't seem to fix it or stand by their product. Have been buying Dell computers for over 10 years and always been happy with them until this one - thank you for the response though!!!
Yes, I bought the same laptop in Nov of 2012 and have been having the same problem. It seems to occur when I lift the laptop to move it, the screen goes white with colored lines across it and then a fan immediately comes on. I have to do a hard restart ,sometimes twice to get it to come back on. Has Dell given any reason or solution for this. I thought it was perhaps a faulty video card. My laptop is still under warranty, as I purchased the extended. I was trying to research the issue before contacting them to ask for it to be fixed. Whenever I run a diagnostics test on the Dell Support website it fails, so I don't know what else to do except contact Dell at this point.
I know this is an old thread, but this also happened to me, Even to the point that it could not boot. I replaced drivers, unplugged my battery and plugged it back in. To no avail.
What did work was the thought that the intel hd graphics 4000 that is in mine uses my ram so, I pulled the back off my laptop, and simply removed the ram, I have two sticks of 4 gigs and then wipe the ends with a dry cloth and re-installed the ram,
So far so good. BTW I did go and change the sleep settings as well, to no sleep no hibernate and will play with these in the days to come.
