Hi ranayh,

The issue doesn't seem to be with the hardware as other devices are getting detected. However, you may uninstall the USB Root Hubs and update the chipset drivers by following the steps below :

  • Unplug all USB devices from the computer.
  • Click on Start.
  • Type Device Manager in the search box.
  • Click on ‘Device Manager’ in the search results. The device manager will open.
  • Click on > sign next to ‘USB Universal Bus Controllers’ to expand the category.
  • Right click on each entry listed under USB Universal Bus Controllers and click on ‘Uninstall’.
  • Click on ‘Yes’ on the security warning.
  • Restart the computer and Windows will automatically install generic drivers for USB Root Hubs.

Please ensure that the chipset drivers are updated. Follow the steps mentioned below :

  • Update the chipset drivers from the link : http://dell.to/QjjZDA
  • Enter the Service Tag of system -> Click on Drivers and Downloads -> select the operating system installed on your computer -> Expand the 'chipset' category and download/install both the drivers -> Restart the computer when prompted and check if the hard drive is getting detected.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Ive done all these steps before and checked my driver software they're all up to date so I went and I purchased a different Flash drive 3.0 and with every USB port I attach it to I get a notification that says "This device can work fast on the super USB 3.0 port" or something of that sort. On all of them even the ones I presumed to be the 3.0 ports. What's the explanation to that?

Hi ranayh,

It appears that the USB 3.0 drivers are not installed on your system. You may download the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver from the link : http://dell.to/16bJXkI

Also ensure that the USB Debugging Mode option in BIOS is disabled. Follow the steps below to check the same :

  • Restart the computer and tap F2 button when you see Dell logo on screen.
  • Using right arrow key Navigate to Advance option
  • Using Down arrow key navigate to Miscellaneous option and Press Enter
  • Ensure that the USB Debug is Disabled
  • Press F10 to save the changes and exit.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any further questions.
