Sorry,  Let me clarify correctly.  It is still BIOS version A12.  Under Boot options it now shows "UEFI" below which it shows 2 options "WIndows Boot Manager", and then "Network Boot"  The windows option is first so I am confident that is why everything is working now.  Hope this info helps other fellow travelers.

Hi all,

I need a miracle, too. My inspiron 13z has the same issue. After the initial setup (and updating the bios to A12 right away), booting always stuck on a blank screen and I had to use ctr+alt +del to get it continue booting the OS. Dell support tried to update everything and manipulate with the bios settings but nothing helped. Now, after using it for less than four weeks the computer does not boot at all. If I hit ctr+alt+ del it just tries to boot again and ends up on the same blank screen, no error, nothing. Pre-boot diagnostics does not find any hardware problem, but apparently the bios cannot find the boot record or something. I tried to change things in the bios setup, but this new UEFI bios does not give any option to boot from USB or any other device. I am stuck with this brick abroad for two months. HELP!

Would you mind checking your Windows Update history and dates to see if there's any coincidence? I think it updated automatically and that may be the "ninja update".

In my case, it is definitely not related to nvidia card since the inspiron 13z has Intel integrated graphics. In addition, I have not done any update in the last few days before the final death knell. I had my win update set to notification so I can control when updates are installed.

No Joy - last updates were 1/14/13.  I don't think windows updates are the trick - I think the issue is in BIOS settings which is a Dell thing.  I don't know if Dell can get into my machine if I leave it off/asleep, or on.  I will snoop around and see if I can find anything.  It could be that A12 fixed my machine.  The boot did not work after the BIOS update, but after I started it a second time - more BIOS update stuff happened as it was booting.  I now wonder if I never shut it off since then.  Only recently did I boot it from a full shutdown.

My booting problem has been solved... by replacing the motherboard in the Inspiron 13z.

Thanks to Dell Technical Support, @DellCares on twitter, and in particular Dell Japan Team, for arranging the onsite service for me abroad.

Open Internet Explorer, go here www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect install the Activex and wait for it to detect drivers, install ALL the drivers it says are outdated (they are like 140Mbs or alike), restart and go to Windows Update and check for updates, click to see updates and Hide the 2 Intel software updates. I believe the problem are those outdated drivers that installs automatically through Windows Update.

Reply if it fixed your issues.

Hi guys,

I had the exact same problem with my Dell Inspiron 7720 SE laptop.

Luckily, it was solved by installing the new A13 Bios version that was made available by dell on 18/03.

So you just need to go to the dell.com drivers web page and download the latest bios version.

Hope it works out for all of you too!

Adrian
