I don't remember I did it ~6 months ago. However I recommend you to go to (default) c:\AMD and delete everything here (or AMD folder itself), same goes for Dell folder and Intel folder. Then (default) C:\Program Files and delete AMD/ATI/ATI technologies/Intel folders. Same goes for \Program files(x86). After that delete Intel and AMD vidoe drivers via Device manager. Winodws should automatically install some drivers on startup. Then Install Intel and AMD drivers I from official websites.
I suggest you to download trial FRAPS and lauch some 3D application while it is running backgroud. It will show FPS. You can then via Catalyst Control Center switch to 7730M and check FPS again.
yes, but inorder to have it work and show...You have to start out with a program you know is using the card correctly..
I know that on my PC, Google chrome works with the 7730...so I will run google chrome first...than the hardware monitor....
That way it see it"""But as a 4000 HD"""""
Than I close Google, while leaving on Hardware monitor....The temp will turn to zero.....or zero out...
Than say I test Bejeweled , and it works with the card....the temp will go back up from zero to what ever?40c?....If Bejeweled is not compatible..than it stays at zero...I usually let it sit for a few seconds..both ways..
What I noticed with this Card combo....No matter what I use to detect the video running. The only one I have found correct in Speccy...Yes speccy. I think it is touch and go with the hardware. Hardware Monitor will see the 7730 running as the HD 4000. But if you notice...
Run a program that you know runs on the card., with the program you use for temp. If you see the temp in the program you are using. leave that program on, while you shut of the program running the card(not the program your using to see the temp.
you will notice that the temp will go to Zero, when you close the program using the card
Now open up the program you want to use the 7730 with. Does the temperature come back on? If it does, that that program is using the 7730. If the temp remains at zero. Chances are its not compatible with what ever operating system your using?
I usually start speccy after I start the program that I know is compatible...than I see the tempture is going.....
Than I shut off the program that is compatible and leave speccy on---speccy shows the card at zero temp...
Than the program I think or I need to run on the card, I open....If I notice the temperature comes back on. Than that program is also using the 7730...
You can do the same with Hardware Monitor---But it shows up as a HD 4000....
I know that it is not the temp of the HD 4000,"in Hardware Monitor", because the HD 4000 and the Processor Run on the same chip-meaning both temps would be the exact same temp...
I hope this help...I've been struggling with this laptop for the past 4 days...and I have learn allot ,the hard way..
Good Luck
Sorry Forgot to ASK-Are you running Windows 7 or 8? If your running windows 8-I read that sometime, you can click the compatibility of the game"have it run in wndows 7 Mode"..and it will work.
I have found that there are allot of programs that will work in Windows 7 and wont in Windows 8...
I have tried this and it is based-if the card works for that program, Google or internet explorer. It wont tell you if the program is compatible with any of the Games, unless the card is active at the time you run.
Internet Explore is not compatible, but Google chrome is.Google Chrome for me works in Windows 7 and Not In Windows 8.1.-In High Perfroamnce
or you have to make sure, while you run system labs, you have one of the programs running at the same time. The card has to be activated at the same time. Than Internet explorer will catch the card. Using Goggle Chrome in Win 7-The card is activated, if you have it set to high Performance.
Good way to test-With No Programs running...Try IE or Google Chrome"Not sure about Fire Fox"
I found out it is based on the Operating system and the AMD Programing.
There's no list out there that tells you what programs are compatible and what are not.
Most people at first think there card is broken or Not working. "switchable Graphics"--But is based on the operating system and the version of AMD switchable graphics--Some programs will not be compatible at all.
Still hoping dell comes out with a way to make this fixable in Bios>>>I purchased the laptop-Because it said dedicated 7730m 2gb. Its a Great Laptop"minus the Graphics"
When You game-There are some games that are only on a Web browser. Intel Graphics and AMD Graphics can make a big difference. My kids like to play alot of games that are web based.
Runescape is a great one to compare.
I have also found out-When the game or program is not Compatible. you might be able to make it say high performance in amd Control Panel. But it will not run the card.(this is the main reason, people think there card is not working)
Windows media Center is Not compatible, but it lets you pick high performance. The program will not run the 7730m. Windows Media Player is the same way.
Say High performance-But the card is not active...It's all what compatible and what is not.
Now if dell wrote a bios that we could click this as a fixed graphics card. Than every program would run on the card. It would no longer be a program based compatibly issue."we would have to use different drivers-non switchable amd )
I really do not know what is your problem. For web browser i see no reason to have AMD card active when Intel can hadle everything fine. Also when you install drivers from AMD/Intel sites everything should works fine. You simply choose if you want to have power saving or high performance and it works for every 3D application that is listed. You can even change it while it is running just alt+tab change it and alt+tab back no problem. The only thing is your applications see Intel 4000 because it cannot see AMD as it is not connected to output and it goes only via Intel card so it is like that 4000 has power of AMD 7730m. Nodaways only thing not working are not 3D applications as web browsers and some config things and so.
It is possible. I am not here to argue the fact of what can be done and what can't be done. There are other dedicated laptop on the market with the same card and the same cpu. Fixed and dynamic is an option in there bios. Dell has a few to. This laptop is one of them that fix and dynamic is not an option in the bios. This rewrite of the bios code would help fix alot of issues.
I have ran the games in both IE and Google chrome-IE not compatible and Google Chrome is..
We get better performance and no lag in the Google chrome
Also another Key Factor is the operating system. I found that there are way way more application that are not compatible in Windows 8.1. But they are in Windows 7
Not here to argue or tell anybody this is the way it works....This is what has worked for me, and what I have found out about this laptop. I came here for answers and I am hoping what I found out, will save somebody allot of work in the future.
You cannot make it fixed. It is how it was designed. Only thing you could want is the card being active all the time but it would lose what it was suppused to. And even that way it is the same as set it via Catalyst control panel. I have to agree non 3D apps ignore high performance, hovewer all web browser apps are flash or HTML5 based so It has to run smoothy no matter which card you are running. And for last I have Windows N version so I cannot have Windows media center or player and I cannot check this.
Well, if anyone else still read this topic. I'm coming back to leshcat drivers. From what I have read the reason why Dell has outdated drivers is because they release latest stable version. And I have to agree. Ever since I have started to use AMD official drivers my computer or application freezes a lot. Also that AMD driver has stopped working and was restored thing. What I remember this didn't happen with Dell drivers. However I cannot use them because my games are not working with it. But what I remember I have never had any problems with leshcat drivers. I hope they give an option to stay with updated drivers and without crashes etc.
I have Windows 8.1, currently finished installing Leashcat 14.4 AMD driver. And as always i had some errors (including BSOD for the first time, second was ok). So let's see how it will work. I have had an error or freeze every day or two so after a week I should be abe to say if it works or not. And for your post, it was like reading my mind. I also should read ore about it before i purchaded. Also it was noted it had dedicated card. And despite this, this notebook works great and even after 2 years I cannot still find any better for the same price!
What Operating system and Version Of the Drivers are you using?
On windows 7, I only use the dell drivers.....this is the most stable-Tried amd's latest, and it did not work well for me.
On Windows 8.1, I use AMD's 14.4
I, like others, have pretty much , just gave up on the matter. It kinda bytes, that there are no answers here...I really think that PowerExpress 5.0 is a Joke. You look up any laptop, with any video card using the 5.0 and all you see is unhappy customers.
After a little over a month of research, There is nothing you can do to fix it. You can cross your fingers and hope, that the latest driver, helps with your program....but than it might not work for another program it did before. Right Now Windows 7, has the most Compatibility.
The Idea of the PowerExpress 5.0, was something they all should have tested, before its release. I have argued on here, that my laptop was advertised as having a dedicated(not discrete) HD 7730m...."See New egg" as an example...But than you look at Dell's site, and they put discrete, without any mention of a switchable HD 4000.----So much confusion.....Shame on me!!!!!!!I should have done my research....before I purchased...."You Google the Dell 15R SE, and man O Man....so many issues with the video card!!!!!!"
The Most we can do as fellow Users....Communicate the issues, with the vendors.....Fingers crossed, they listen.....
Communicate with each other---what drivers work and what games we have found compatible.
I do not see any fix for these in the future, but maybe more stable drivers, coming out of AMD and Leschcat....
This laptop is a Great Machine, very strong/Fast, just has a useless Video card, unless it decides to be compatible with the program we want to use...End user, really has no choice, except---disabled or "power savings" ---Power savings works on ALL programs......
Card works Great, when you find a program it communicates and works with...
Please if you are reading this, feel free to let us all know-what drivers work for you? If you found any work arounds? Feel free to email me, I can tell you what has worked for me???
I am sure you cleaned all folders and traces of the past driver, before installation of 14.4?
When I installed it on mine, It was a complete clean install of 8.1.....Not upgrade...I burn a disk from Microsoft"using my windows 8 key".....Than did some tweaks I found online, that let my key activate...I disabled windows Update during install
I updated all the drivers--...using --- hd 4000 "dells"first than 14.4 "amds"
Not sure if a clean install helped with this driver, but I have not had any issues, aside from compatibility with other programs.
