ur2punk,

4 orange blinks and 1 white one, correct?

I have noticed this on my older system. The battery will only charge to 98% and it's a warning that the battery is slowly failing.

Press the Battery icon on the top row, mine is F3(some are Fn and F3) You'll see....

Click on the battery Health tab.

Mine has no exclamation point icon and doesn't say it has reached end of usable life. Did it start like that and then, as you were saying how the battery is slowly failing, the message changes & the icon appears?

Since I can use the battery until it is drained & recharge too, I guess I'll just use it until it croaks & then get a replacement.

I checked the firmware/BIOS & it is at A19. The Dell battery status still does not show the yellow-background exclamation icon; rather it shows a blue battery with a lightening bolt on it & a green plug when I go to the screen that the rockstar Rick posted. Other than that the blinking matches what Rick said (it blinks too fast & I don't know if it makes any difference or not but it almost seems like 5 orange & 1 white blinks ...

ur2punk,

If you use the computer on battery for 10 minutes, then shutdown the computer. If you start it on battery and/or plug it in, then start the computer, you don't get the blinking. Then it's the battery slowly failing and will eventually need replaced.
