Hi ankit1986,

There could be a possibility that your system is going to sleep mode. I will recommend you to change the power options on your system and see if that makes a difference:

  • Click on 'Start'.
  • Click on 'Control Panel'.
  • Click on 'Power options'.
  • On the left side of the screen, click 'Choose what closing the lid does'.
  • Click the drop down on 'When I close the lid' and set it to 'Do nothing'.
  • Change it on both 'On battery' and 'Plugged in'.
  • Click on 'Save changes'.

In case the issue is still not resolved, uninstall and re-install video driver:

To uninstall the video driver:

  • Click on 'Start' and right click on 'My Computer'.
  • Click on 'Manage' and click on 'Device manager'.
  • Expand 'Display adapters'.
  • Right click the video driver and click on 'uninstall'
  • Once the driver is uninstalled, click on 'Start' and click on 'Control Panel'.
  • Click on 'Programs and features'.
  • A list of applications will be listed.
  • Look for the video driver's application.
  • Right click on it and click on 'uninstall'.
  • Once done, restart the system.

To re install the video driver:

  • Click on the link: http://dell.to/QjjZDA
  • Enter your system's Service Tag and select the operating system.
  • Go to 'Video' and select the appropriate video card driver depending on the video card your system has.
  • Click on 'Download File'.
  • Select 'Single-file download' and click on 'Continue'.
  • Click on 'Save' and save the driver on the desktop.
  • Right click on the driver from the desktop and select 'Run as administrator'.
  • Install the driver following the on screen instructions.
  • Restart the system after the installation is done and check if the issue is fixed.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi Ankit,

Thank you for the reply. I would like to check the issue further by checking the mini dump files. Please follow the steps listed below to search for the 'minidump folder'. We will decode this folder to understand the root cause of the issue that you have been facing:

- Click 'Computer'
- Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump and tap
- Copy all the 'Minidump' folders and paste them to your desktop screen
- Please attach these folders in your next reply
- Let me check the 'Minidump' folder with a debugging tool to see if we get decisive results

Note: The minidump folders will be .exe folders. You will not be able to attch .exe files on this forum. Right click on each .exe folder and select 'Send to' and then select 'Compressed (Zipped) folder'. A zip file will be created which you can attach here. Below is the screen shot how to attach files:

Once you click on the icon, a window will open. Click on 'Browse' to browse the minidump folder. Once the file is uploaded, click on 'Insert':

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi Ankit,

I am replying on behalf of DELL-Vikram M. I have reviewed the mini dump files. It seems to an issue with the operating system. I would suggest you to perform Refresh on the computer. The Refresh option is primarily a repair method. It is a great method of returning your PC to a known good state while preserving your files and a great deal of your configuration. With the Refresh optionyour user accounts, data files, and some settings are preserved on your PC without the need to create a backup, or to make choices about what to keep or remove.

To Refresh Windows 8 please follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Open the General section of PC Settings by the key combination WIN KEY + C to open charms bar and click PC Settings.

  2. Click the Get started button under Refresh your PC without affecting your files.

  3. Click the Next button at the Refresh your PC step of the wizard.

  4. You may be prompted to insert installation or recovery media if there is not a recovery image preconfigured on your PC.

  5. Click the Refresh button at the Ready to refresh your PC step.

  6. At this point, the PC is restarted, and the refresh actions are completed.

Please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. You may refer to the link for more information http://bit.ly/PwgEW8
The above steps are for Windows 8 operating system. Please refer to the link if you are using a different operating system http://dell.to/Wj1rZe

Hi Ankit,

Thank you for the response. Please check if the system overheats. I believe you are referring to the link http://dell.to/Wj1rZe. If you have performed PC Restore by following the steps in the article. I would suggest you to try the following steps.

Clean the air vents and update the system BIOS for your second computer.

Below are the steps to clean the air vents:

  1. Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through.
  2. Turn off the System.
  3. Unplug the AC Adapter.
  4. Remove the Battery.
  5. Use Compressed Air to blow the dust out of the vents.

Note: Please use compressed air can. When using compressed air can, use the can according to the directions on the side of the can as you can cause damage to the computer if used incorrectly.

Please ensure that BIOS is updated on your system:

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Battery is 10%> or >10% charged
*Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

  • Click on the link http://dell.to/Vvykgo
  • Click on ‘Download File’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click ‘Continue’
  • Click ‘Save’
  • Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
  • Right click and choose ‘Run as Administrator’
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program
  • Restart the computer

 Hope this helps.

Hi Ankit,

It could be an issue with the operating system. I would suggest you to disconnect all the external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives)  and check if the issue persists.

Please share if you have performed PC Restore as mentioned in my previous post. If not, I would recommend you to perform PC Restore.

To perform PC restore:

  • Restart PC, press 3-4 times when the Dell logo appears.
  • Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
  • Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.
  • System Recovery Options prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.
  • Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.
  • Choose a Recovery Tool Window appears, select Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup.
  • The Welcome screen will show 2 options; Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files and Select other System Backup and more options. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click Next.
  • The next window shows these options; Backup Files and folders and Restore my computer. Select ‘Restore my computer’.
  • Select the Factory Image and click ‘Next’.
  • The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click Next.
  • A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved at the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click Next.
  • PC restore will initiate. Once done, click Restart.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account

Hi Ankit,

In order to assist in a better way, I would need the service tag of the computer.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Please reply if you have any questions.
