Jondy7720: Welcome to the "No Boot" club.  Go to the third page of this thread and it tells you how to get into the Win 8 Boot Manager that gets you to the BIOS same as F2 or F12. The Shift Key + RESTART will also get you to the Boot Manager easiest, just do not be surprised when you see the spinning circle as if it is rebooting, it is loading the Boot Manager.  Once at the proper page you will see 6 options:  Settings tile is same as F2  and Boot  Menu tile is same as F12. Dell is working on a fix to the BIOS software. It appears like some configuration parameters are wiped that we do not have access to are wiped and F9(default BIOS configuration) should restore them( or it) when fixed.

@CyberMax and anyone else that may be interested in this, I checked on some of my other Dell systems to see what features are supported by their processors and I found out that the two other Dells in my house all support AES-NI.

I checked my Inspiron One 2320 BIOS A10, with Core i5-2400S (Sandy Bridge) and it in fact  has AES-NI enabled. I also checked my wife's Inspiron 17R (N7110) BIOS A13, Core i5-2430M (Sandy Bridge) and it too supports AES-NI. I have not checked in the BIOS to see if there is an option to toggle it on or off.

I do not understand why AES-NI is enabled on these machines but is disabled on the newer 17R SE i5 and i7 versions, which have newer Ivy Bridge processors, Hopefully we can get our features added back into a future BIOS revision.

No boot club, thanks for the welcome Bill,do I want to be in this club??..... : )I did read that info on the page you mentioned and got the same results, seemed like it was loading but the last few seconds said there was an error and was going to reinstall windows OS when it was working properly. This is where I'am at now,and it works ok this way but still no access to F2/F12 boot menu.I did call Dell and worked with a representative and we still couldn't get into the BIOS,she said there is probably something wrong with the motherboard and requested I get that replaced as well(had another issue w/computer not related to this).Don't know if this helps anyone, just reporting what has happened to me.

@Rafterman414 - Thanks for checking into that I can't understand why the 17R N7110 would have it enabled either where as the more powerful 17R SE 7720 wouldn't.

Also, to back why it should be enabled, and that Dell should just take the easy way out and call it an oversight.

I found a marketing page on Dells Web Site for SOHO which clearly states AES-NI as a technology feature for 3rd Gen i7's and i5's - Mind you yes I noted the subnote 2 about needing an Intel Processor that supports it and a non-Intel software that can use the instruction set. But, that's for information about units with processors that where available back in 2010 (probably when this page was created) those processors where based on the Alendale chipset and I highly doubt one could purchase a unit using them now, it was implemented then why not now??

Cheers

@CyberMaxX360 Yeah you would think that the newer more powerful processors would have more of the features enabled. All of my machines were purchased from the for home section but you would expect systems that are listed on SOHO to not have features disabled. I actually returned my system last night since I had a Dell tech scratch the laptop, break the bezel, and also break the right touch pad button while replacing my screen. I will keep checking this thread though to see if these issues get resolved. Maybe if things get fixed I will consider getting another one. If I buy another laptop from somewhere else I will PM you and let you know if it has AES-NI enabled.

An update,

I was able to find some faults with my 1st laptop and luckily was still within the time frame to get a replacement. This newer laptop is configured the exact same as original. It was shipped with the A11 bios the same as older one.I know this because after one session on this laptop it would not boot up.I was able to get into the BIOS and change one of the boot options from ahci to sata - reboot - then change back to ahci from sata.I had to come into the forums to find this answer which was suggested from a Dell representative(nightmare solved).I'm not sure if I received a new/updated motherboard or not but I was able to get into the BIOS twice to make the changes needed to allow the computer to boot up.Just suggesting that the A11 BIOS might not be the only culprit causing these laptops not being able to gain access into the BIOS.Sure hope they get these problems ironed out.

So I was not going to reorder this machine after returning my old one however I could not really find any comparable systems that were a good deal. I looked at some HPs and they all felt very cheap and the ones I looked at in the store had terrible displays. I ended up getting the 17R SE with i5 3230m, 1080p at a discounted price after several complaints and threats to close my DPA account.

My system came with the A12 BIOS and I have not experienced any issues so far. The BIOS still has less options then I would like but at least the system boots up correctly and I can access the BIOS. I also noticed that the GPU boost seems to be working correctly. So far I have not had any problems. And at idle my GPU is much much cooler then it was on my last system, right now it is sitting at 33 Degrees Celsius, CPU around 40 Degrees

@CyberMaxX360, sorry no AES-NI on the new system.

This is from another thread that I posted in but here are some other findings on my new 17R SE compared to my old one.

My new system has no panel backlight issues (well there is a teeny tiny, but barely noticeable spot on the lower right, but I would not have noticed it if I was not looking for problems). The 1080p panel that I have is CMN1720, which I think is a Chi Mei panel, and it is great. No strain at all on my eyes.

So far I have not experienced any issues the new system, I wonder if Dell is beefing up the quality control after receiving too many complaints.

If you are still within your return window I would return any machine with the 900p AUO display, I think the base 17R SE no longer has that 900p display anymore, plus the i5 is a 3230 instead of 3210. Not really a big diff processor wise, I think just 100 MHz clock increase.

Oh but the base HDD is 750GB as opposed to 1TB, really was not a big deal for me since I store most of my stuff on my home server.

Has there been any progress on these issues?I did notice a bunch of driver updates for the 7720 dated 2/8/2013 on the drivers page.Has anyone updated to them and does the computer run ok or better with the new drivers?

As a side note,so far this computer seems to be running ok,no more booting up issues.

Hi there, just a little update : my twice boot issue has been solved at home this morning by a motherboard replacement under warranty by a tecnician.

Then my laptop is back to A10 bios rev and it works properly !

A10 Bios is the solution.

Good luck to everyone who's still in trouble, don't hesitate to call Dell for a motherboard exchange ;-)

poiro

Thanks for posting the update.  If you don't mind could you take photo's of the advanced screen in the A10 BIOS and post them here.

Pioro

Thanks, boot to the BIOS, start the system while tapping F2,  once in the BIOS choose the advanced tab and take a picture of that screen, then select the boot screen and take a photo of it.  Then post both photos here, so we can see if there are any settings change between A11-12 and A10.

Terry : I did not modify anything after mobo replacement and trust me i don't want to.

My laptop works properly, it's fine and i don't feel enough clever totry freestyle experiments on my Bios by myself lol

Good luck everyone.

Thanks again for the photos.

So Secure Boot is set to disabled, and boot List Option is set to Legacy after having the system board replaced?

This does help.
