Thank you for the detailed error code. This error code indicates that fan is running faster than expected. I request you flash BIOS to the latest version from the link given below:
Note: While flashing BIOS connect the Ac adapter and make sure the battery has minimum 15% charge as this needs uninterrupted power supply. Do not use the system till it restarts and comes up to the desktop.
Please check if there is sound from the fan after flashing BIOS. If the issue persists I request you to run diagnostics once again. In case you are getting this same error message again, I suspect the fan is faulty. Please click on the link below to check the warranty of the system. In case the system is under warranty, send me a private message with the system service tag to assist you further. Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

I have a brand new inspirion 17R 5721, only 3 days old and the fan has been on Full Speed and very loud constantly. The fan has never once shut down. It comes on instantly and the noise is driving me insane. I love everything else about the laptop, but I can hear it from the next room. I have been reading the forum posts about this problem and a lot of people are stuck with the same issue. Mine was shipped with BIOS version A05, but I saw a post from a DELL person who had a link to an A06 version. I cannot find that post for the link. Is there an A06 link?
I understand the concern. As you mentioned there was an issue with the Fans spinning faster than expected and Dell was researching on this. New BIOS version (A06) has been released which will resolve the issue. Please click on the link below to flash BIOS to the latest version.
Thank you, Sujatha. The new BIOS version A06 fixed the fan speed problem. Hopefully DELL will send out an email to all owners of this model so that they can benefit as well.
I have Inspiron 17R SE 7720. I'm very satisfied with this notebook except one thing – fan. I have two operating systems Windows 8 and Debian Linux. BIOS version is A14. Fan works correct in Windows 8. There is a problem with fan in Debian. Fan works normally when system starts. When CPU work harder fan will increase speed to maximum and it will never slow down. Now (during wroting this message) fan is very loud at the maximum speed and CPU temperature is only 43 degrees Celsius (109,40 degrees Fahrenheit). It is very very annoying.
There are i8k module and i8kutils in debian which control fan but they are unusable.
„i8kfan -1 0“ – disable fan – Works fine. Fan start working when CPU reach 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) but fan is continuously increasing speed to maximum.
„i8kfan -1 1“ – set slow speed – Works bad. It set slow speed 78480 RPM but fan is continuously increasing speed to maximum 117180 RPM in cca one minute. i8kctl utility shows RPM values.
„i8kfan -1 2“ – set maximum speed – Works fine.
So fan will never slow down and still works on maximum speed.
