Wireless connection on a desktop is useful if the Ethernet cable is limited/fixed at a dedicated point in the house, connecting a router to the Ethernet cable and wireless adapter to the desktop can be helpful if the computer is moved to a different location of the house where there is no availability of the Ethernet cable.
