PXE E61 Error

Hi

Can anyone help please?  I know there are other postings relating to this but I haven't found one that quite matches.

I have a Dell XPS.  When I turn on the Dell screen appears and the progress bar completes an the machine just locks.  After 203 minutes i get the following on the screen

Realtek PCIe GBE Family controllerService V2.35 6/14/10

PXE-E61 Media test Failure, Check Cable

PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM

Operating System not found

The system just beeps continuosly after that.

I have not changed BIOS settings or added any new programmes recently

I have tried getting into the Bios or the Boot sequence (F2 or F12)  but that justs enters into the above loop

Can anyone advise what the issue and solution is please?

Thanks very much

Sounds like your hard drive is toast.  Unplug the system and remove the battery.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.  Disconnect and reconnect the hard drive.

If it's then still not seen, it's toast - replace the system.

Hi,

Thanks for that.  Where is the hard drive?  Is it undere the keyboard and if so can you point me to a manual that I can look it up.

Thanks again

I found and replaced the hard drive but nothing happened.  Is it likely that it is the motherboard as well?

The reason I ask is that just becuase the hard drive is gone I should still be able to get the Bios to load?

Thanks

Can't advise without knowing what model system you have.

Could be.  Can you get into the BIOS setup if you leave the hard drive disconnected?
