DELL team,

I express my same disappointment as HAMOSA.

I am extremely disappointed with the machine! I just bought it less than 3 months ago and I'm already experiencing 3 breakdowns. 1st breakdown, I had to change motherboard within 1st month of purchase! 2nd breakdown, the screen went blank on me and went back normal after I left it half a day turned off (feeling a little hopeless here)! Now, 3rd breakdown, power button on but all I'm getting is BLACK BLANK SCREEN!

When I logged a complaint to DELL, I had to wait for the technician to come back to me TOMORROW?! That is, if parts are available!! Else, the technician can only come and fix on MONDAY?! Yes, today is Thursday and I have to work! All my stuff are in the laptop and now I cannot proceed with my work! GREAT JOB, DELL!!

I still hope someone can come out with a way to fix it, instead of me wasting my time waiting for DELL's "specialist" to come! This is my first time purchasing DELL and I'm very very disappointed! I've been using another brand all along and the machine is working perfectly fine for a good 5 years! Now, I don't even know I shall continue to support DELL anymore in the future.

I've unplugged everything, the battery is internal however so that is still inside. Did as you said but the power+ fn only got me to the same screen

I'm having the exact same problem, I've been trying to do the F12 thing but like Joe it only highlights it on the screen and doesn't open anything up. Were you able to fix the problem?? I would really appreciate any help!

Thank you

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I am sorry about this, Try releasing the static power and run the hardware diagnostics, Follow the steps below.

Switch off the system; remove the battery, ac adapter and the power cable. Press and hold down the power button for thirty seconds to drain any excess static power.

Press the Fn + Power which will initiate the hardware diagnostics. Let us know if there is any error code listed.

Right, I guess I wrote that backwards, fn + power is what I tried. Still just goes to the dell screen and sits there occasionally it goes black and all the lights come on like it is trying to restart itself

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the update, reseating the memory in the system may fix this issue. Hence reseat the memory and check if the problem persists. In case the problem persists, try swapping the memory from one slot to another (one at a time) and check if the system is working. To reseat the memory refer to the user manual using the link below.

Let me know about the progress.

Hi

I am also having this problem with the Dell Inspiron 14z stuck at the logo screen.  Pressing F2 or F12 on start up only highlights the option but still stuck.

I tried fully removing the battery and hard drive and was able to test the hard drive on a separate laptop in a USB HD caddy.  Copied off all my files, ran a hard drive checker and then put the system back together.  Still no luck.

Has any one come up with a solution to this problem?

Given the number of people reporting this problem it sounds like a generic type fault in this product line.  Dell, you need to take this seriously!

Hi papperley,

Apologies for an unpleasant experience with the Dell system, it appears to be a hardware issue. Please share the Operating System installed.

Try running hardware diagnostics to confirm hardware functionality. Press and hold down the 'Fn' key and power on the system to initiate hardware diagnostics. Please share if you encounter any error message. Also, share if you hear any beep codes when you power on the system.

Please reply with the information, I'll be happy to assist you further.

Hi Saharsh

The OS is Windows 7 and the laptop is about a year old.

Holding Fn and Power doesn't work - it also results in the locked Dell startup screen.  No error messages or beeps.

Regards

Hi Peter,

Thank you for sharing the information. Remove the hard drive from the system and check if you are able to boot to BIOS without the hard drive being installed. Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F2' key to enter the 'BIOS Setup'. If you are able to boot to BIOS, press 'F9' key to load BIOS defaults and then press the 'F10' key to save and exit.

Once the BIOS is reset to defaults, install the hard drive and check functionality. Please refer to the Owner's Manual of this system for instructions on assembling and dis-assembling the hardware components. Follow the 'Safety Guidelines' listed on the manual to help protect your computer from potential damage and to help ensure your own personal safety.

Hope this helps. Please reply with the findings.

Hi Saharsh

I've got a Dell technician coming along tomorrow to have a look at it - so I will let him have the pleasure of removing all the screws and trying that.

Will post an update once he's been

Thanks

Peter
