Hello James,

Please try the following steps which might help us to disable the 'Extended battery life' option:

-- Right click the  Battery icon on the task bar towards the bottom right of the desktop and select 'Battery Meter'.
-- Dell Battery meter pop up opens, select Battery status.
-- Uncheck the option 'Enable Dell extended Battery life' from the Battery status section.
-- Restart the computer and check the functionality.

Please try the steps and write back with results.

Hi DELL-ALLAN D,

Is there an updated driver that I can download and install that fixes the unresponsive screen display?

Hello WWmbes,

In order to assist you further, I would request you to elaborate about the issue that you are facing. I would also like to know, when you say "Unresponsive Screen Display", what exactly are you referring to.

In the bottom left hand corner of the Dell Vostro laptop screen is a light blue window withrounded corners and a picture of a battery with a green leaf over it with the words "Extended Battery Life is activated" in black print with a grey background beside it.  Below that are the words "Change Setting...." in the same print.     No imaginable action seems to remove it and it covers up a portion of the screen in which many messages and statuses from applications appear, rendering that portion of the screen useless.     This is the same symptom as described above by Jamestown116.

The solution provided in this conversation is a work around involving a change of settings and a reboot, neither of which will work in the circumstances of this laptop.   Therefore this request is for an implementation of a solution to the root cause of the problem , which is an error in the battery/power management driver/controlling software from Dell, which displays the message, but does not respond to user input, nor time out.

According to the original entry on this subject in this conversation, almost 6 months have passed since it was brought to the attention of Dell and it would be reasonable for users of this device/software to enquire whether it has received any attention resulting in a software update, or alternatively, when it is likely to receive attention, if ever.

Annoying isn't it? Here's how to get rid:

Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to open Task Manager.

Click on the tab labelled "Processes".

Find the process named "quickset.exe", right click on it and select "End Process". Confirm the dialog that appears.

Hello WWmbes,

Please help me understand if you have tried uninstalling quick-set. If not, please try uninstalling and re-installing quick-set and check if that works.

  • Uninstall the existing quickset drivers from program and features (Start - Control Panel - program and Features).
  • Restart the computer.
  • To download the latest version of quick-set click here (Enter the service tag, choose the operating system and under application, you will find quick-set).
  • Download and Install the Quick-set for the system.
  • Restart the computer and check the functionality.

Please write back for further queries.

Hi,

Thanks for the resolution, but this not acceptable resolution, its a work around for a bug that is on the "PC". I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

It works, if the laptop is restarted, but this is not ideal when you want to save battery / power, you need to close all applications and then restart the pc, for the "Dell Status" - "Extended Battery Life is activated." ??? Unacceptable...... Right.

Just like you, I've looked all over this blame computer and as usual, I find nothing to turn it off.

I think this is merely junk like all the other junk on here just trying to make us buy things.

This here stinks
