Hi Viniciuspc,

Thank you for the response. Since the keyboard works in Safe Mode, I would suggest you to perform a clean boot to determine whether background programs are interfering. Please refer to the steps mentioned in the link:
http://bit.ly/12PfxI
http://bit.ly/dvkhDE

If the issue persists, then it is advisable to perform PC restore, which means taking the computer back to factory defaults to eradicate any software issues.
Note: We would advise you to take a complete backup of your data (pictures, music, videos, and documents) as this step leads to complete data loss. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

To perform PC restore:

  • Restart PC, press 3-4 times when the Dell logo appears.
  • Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
  • Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.
  • System Recovery Options prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.
  • Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.
  • Choose a Recovery Tool Window appears, select Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup.
  • The Welcome screen will show 2 options; Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files and Select other System Backup and more options. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click Next.
  • The next window shows these options; Backup Files and folders and Restore my computer. Select ‘Restore my computer’.
  • Select the Factory Image and click ‘Next’.
  • The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click Next.
  • A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved at the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click Next.
  • PC restore will initiate. Once done, click Restart.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account

Hi

I had same problem after I've installed VmWare 5 player to my Inspiron 7520.

I found a good solution on this link: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/66198-29-keyboard-freezes-system

"To solve the problem, open the Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e96b-e325-11ce-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Edit the entry UpperFilters, and remove the filter vmkbd, leaving only the filter kbdclass.
Restart your laptop and connect the USB keyboard."

A.

Hi Viniciuspc,

Please reply with the operating system installed on your computer. You can try the following steps.

Note: Ensure that all USB devices are disconnected from the computer.

First uninstall the USB Root hubs from drivers:

  • Click on Start
  • Right click on Computer -> click on Properties
  • Click on Device Manager
  • Expand ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’
  • From the list, look for ‘USB Root Hub’
  • Right click, choose ‘Uninstall’, choose ‘Ok’
  • Uninstall all ‘USB Root Hub’ listed
  • Wait for all the drivers to get uninstalled
  • Restarted the computer
  • Restarting the computer will install ‘USB Root Hub’s automatically on the computer

You may update the chipset driver, click on the link http://dell.to/QjjZDA , type the service tag of the computer -> choose the operating system -> expand 'Chipset', download and install the driver.

Hope this helps.

Hi Viniciuspc

Thank you for the response. Please share a screenshot of Device manager.

  • Click "Start"
  • Right-click on ‘’Computer’’
  • Click on ‘’Properties’’
  • Click on ‘’Device Manager’’ in the upper left corner (if prompted to continue by the User Account Control) click ‘’Continue’’

I would also suggest you to download and update the chipset drivers from the links mentioned below:

http://dell.to/QhSAkG
http://dell.to/Y0nTXk

If the above steps do not work, I would suggest you to perform System restore. System restore will not affect the BIOS update. Here are the steps:

  • Click on 'Start'
  • Click on 'All Programs' then click 'Accessories'
  • Click on 'System Tools'
  • Click on the 'System Restore'
  • Then click 'Next' on the "Restore system files and settings" window
  • Then choose the restore point that you want to use(choose a date when the system was working good)
  • After that click 'next' to continue
  • Then click 'Finish' on the "Confirm your restore point" window to start the System Restore
  • Then Click 'Yes' to the once started, System Restore cannot be interrupted. Do you want to continue? dialog box.
  • System Restore will now restore Windows 7 to the state that was recorded in the restore point.
  • Immediately after logging in to Windows 7 after the reboot, you should see a message that System Restore completed successfully
  • Click Close. Restart the computer.

You may refer to the link for more information http://dell.to/VRG2ad

Hope this helps.

Hi Viniciuspc,

Let's try the following steps.

Reset BIOS to defaults settings:

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer, tap ‘F2’ key on the Dell logo
  • This will take you to the BIOS screen
  • Press ‘F9’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’
  • Press ‘F10’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’ to reboot the system

Now, power off the computer and go to BIOS again. Use the right arrow key to move to 'Advanced' Tab and disable the 'USB Emulation' option. Restart the computer and check

If the above steps do not work, then check in Safe Mode.

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer, tap F8 on Dell logo 2-3 times
  • This will take you to ‘Windows Advanced Boot Options’
  • Choose ‘Safe Mode’ in the Advanced Boot menu (use ‘up’ or ‘down’ arrow keys to highlight the option, press ‘enter’ to select)
  • When Windows finishes loading in Safe mode, check if the keyboard responds properly

Please reply if you have any questions.
