You may try disabling QUICKSET - in some cases this turned out to be the cause for CAPSLOCK problems.

Click "Start" ,type msconfig.exe and run it.Check the Start-up items and look for Quickset (if installed) - untick the box and restart.

Hi Ged,

Welcome to the Community.

Please check if the issue persists in safe mode. Restart the system > Tap F8 > Safe Mode and hit Enter.

If the issue persists, you can perform a System Restore for the date the system was working properly. Click the link mentioned below for more information:

NOTE: System restore removes the application installed after the restore point but does not delete any files.

Also, connect an external keyboard and check if the issue persists.

Thanks & Regards

Thank you for your kind reply.

Hi again. Thank you so much for you kind reply.

Well I tried the safe mode & it worked perfectly well. I then went back to normal settings & its still the same? Also the number lock does exactly the same thing it drags for around 5 seconds then you can type away!!!!

I have tried an external keyboard & this works perfectly well so it must be a glitch in the laptop itself. I did a system restore & this would only ley me take it back to mid March of this year, I was hoping to try & get it back to mid september of last year.

I am so tempted to flatten the laptop & start all over again, the only problem with that is that it had the problem when I purchased the laptop aproximately 16 months ago from new. I have always liked this laptop & I even talked our son into getting the latest DELL Inspiron 15R Classic but this for me is a mystery on my machine. I am pretty sure that DELL will have come across this before & I always remember a lady having the same problem at the time I purchased this machine but for some strange reason it went fine after a couple of weeks of use & updates etc. Does Dell have any sort of updates to put this right??? I have tried updating the keyboard & it says it has the latest update. Its not worked properly since 2012 but I have just carried on using the shift button to get around the problem. PS is it normal for these machines to run hot????

Oh well back to the drawing board!!!!

Regards.

Ged.

After disabling Quickset you will miss OnScreenDisplays for loudness, brightness,Capslock on/off etc and the capability to easily switch between FN-Multimedia keys and normal F1-F12 behaviour.but this is normally not a big problem.

If you keyboard doesn't have Led's and you need a Capslock indicator then try this:
