Which are available with Sputnik and are all drivers being added to the mainline kernel? Far more interested in driver support than more software development tools.
The XPS 15 and 13 both looks great with Haswell. Whichever of them comes with Ubuntu (sputnik) I will get.
I'm so tired of my VaioSE15 and I really want to buy a laptop with Ubuntu and not pay for Windows and install Ubuntu for free. It's not fair to pay Microsoft to use Ubuntu, canonical should get it instead.
I haven't bought a new laptop just waiting for the new sputnik to come out, so yes that's enthusiasm.
And I really think project sputnik should focus more on drivers and hardware working OOTB. For the tools, experienced devs know their way, and would probably even ditch ubuntu for debian/fedora.
I am personally a Chakra-Linux developer and would gladly do images tuned for sputnik to give alternatives to ubuntu. (yes, i don't like unity)
Sorry for O/T: Chakra is great, tried it - it only fell short of installing some required programs from the repositories, so I went for Manjaro KDE, kind of a sibling of Chakra.
Love that news Barton... I may have to immediately order one to replace my fully functioning and existing XPS13, just to support open source at Dell. I'll keep my ears open.
This is great news! I'll be ordering one as soon as they're available. I really hope that I'll be able to order one with a US-layout keyboard in the UK, but I'm not holding my breath... I might just have to import one from the USA.
I'm guessing this may have been handled elsewhere, so I apologize, but I haven't found it.
I'm just curious about an XPS 14 upgrade to the new form factor/Haswell/touchscreen. I wouldn't hate an XPS 15, and would maybe even to go that size to get the M3800, but 14" is the ideal size for me and it would be nice to know if that will be an option.
Perhaps the announcement of the XPS details will coincide with that? Barton has already said it will happen this month so we already know it will happen somewhere in the next 3 weeks (assuming everything is on schedule). The "soon" comment makes that sound plausible, so we don't have too long to wait at this point.
I said this previously, but I too hope that they offer a 15" version with Ubuntu pre-loaded as well. Presumably the hardware of the XPS 15 and 13 will be identical with the exception of the physical size of the case and the size of the screen. At least, such a scenario would make logical sense to cut costs and so forth....why make two different assembly lines with vastly different specs to produce the "same" product at a slightly different size??
So presumably, even if they do not offer this out-of-the-box, it shouldn't be too difficult to install it after the fact. But having the option to get it out-of-the-box, and not have to pay for a Windows license that is completely unnecessary would certainly be a plus. :)

Barton --
Another lurker waiting eagerly here. Any word on when the Haswell XPS13 will be released? Can you share some battery run-times?
Kind regards,
Travis

Are you able to comment on whether there will be an official developer edition of the XPS 15?

According to this page, the Precision M3800 is coming November 14:

Hmm the xps 13 is out today. The Ubuntu ones are only $10 cheaper than their windows counter part? Is Dell being greedy here?
